Using low temperature waste industrial heat, instead of electricity, to produce cold. With natural refrigerant

About us

Does your company have a waste heat source? Do you need cold, or pre-cooling and pre-heating in your industrial process? We may have the right solution for you! We support industries and customers with eco-friendly process cooling solutions to reduce their electrical needs and carbon footprints; thanks to non-electric adsorption chillers that are powered by waste heat from any available thermal heat source - from 55°C - to achieve an extremely high electrical saving. Sorption Technologies (SOR) is an European manufacturing company of adsorption chiller with headquarter in Germany, production plant in Poland and R&D facility in Italy. We develop, design and produce customized thermal chiller solutions, adsorption units, that needs primarily heat instead of electricity. Our Adsorption chillers used solid sorbent - silica gel - and natural refrigerant R718 - pure water – with GWP = 0. The thermal machines from SOR are modular, customer-specific, easily integrated and low-maintenance systems. They require “low temperature” heat to be activated; these solutions are target for industrial heat recovery and energy efficiency and the help to save a substantial amounts of energy and CO2 emissions. Where to use it: SOR products can be used wherever there is an available waste heat and need of cold. For example, waste industrial process heating, heat from CHP units, air compressors and more. The focus is on the efficiency of production processes using waste heat with thermal chiller to pre-cooling (and/or) pre-heating industrial processes. Innovation and research are a primary focus of the company. Along with commercial products, we develop and produce specific prototypes from Universities and Research centres. Beside it we are working with different R&D projects, some of them also founded by the European union.

  • We are proud to participate in the Dyman Project EU. This EU project aims to develop innovative adsorption coolers for HPC, using new low-temperature adsorbents. It also introduces 3D printed adsorption heat exchangers that reduce internal thermal resistance and enhance heat transfer via two-phase flow, improving efficiency and reducing electrical consumption. Additionally, the project seeks to advance a two-phase cooling system for high-performance computing servers to better manage thermal loads of next-gen processors and recover half of waste heat to generate additional cooling power through a sorption heat pump. At Sorption Technologies GmbH, we innovate cost efficient adsorption technolgies for this prototype. We are excited to get to collaborate with other partners from other countries in this project. • Our Sorption Technologies test rig is finally ready! A flexible test-station unit produced in Mönchengladbach, where it is possible to test the behaviour of the machine with different working temperatures. Beside a flexibility in the temperature (from 5°C up to 90°C), also the flow rate can be modified. It is possible to review the output of the machine thanks to the PLC connected to the different sensors of the test, among which we have temperature, pressure, flow meter etc. The high flexibility of the test rig guarantees the opportunity to add different sensors in different position of the circuit, based on the prototypes which are going to be tested.

Last month, our business developer Gabriele Penello has attended the General assembly of THUMBS-UP, organized by our partner CNR ITAE in Sicily, Italy. Thank you, Valeria Palomba and Andrea for the great organization! Sorption Technologies GmbH, together with other 20 partners from 9 countries, aims to create a thermochemical storage, which provides both heating and cooling systems. This storage is cost-effective and can be easily integrated in existing building systems.
