This week, Executive Director Maya Pack and Legislative Initiatives Coordinator Amelia Wilks attended the NASHP | National Academy for State Health Policy 37th Annual Conference in Nashville. They were able to connect with and learn alongside state health policy leaders innovative solutions concerning access to rural health care, recruiting and sustaining the health workforce, and addressing social determinants of health.

IMPH seeks to achieve this mission by convening academic, governmental, organizational and community-based stakeholders around issues important to the health and well-being of all South Carolinians. In conducting this work, IMPH takes a comprehensive approach to advancing health issues through data analysis and translation and collaborative engagement. The South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health is a member of the National Network of Public Health Institutes. Member institutes represent a diverse array of entities that work in collaboration with federal, state, and local public health agencies, private-sector partners, academia and other organizations to foster innovations that improve the public’s health.

IMPH releases report on Health Outcomes Associated with Medicaid Expansion. This report serves as an update to IMPH’s 2021 report, Health Outcomes Associated with Medicaid Expansion in Adults Reaching Retirement Age. This report provides updated information for the states identified in the 2021 report and includes an analysis of several different chronic disease states in South Carolina that can be impacted by expanded health care coverage. ➡ https://lnkd.in/eYWU-r3v

Nearly a quarter of the older adult population is considered socially isolated. In Dillon County, community members recognized that aging adults struggle to remain connected to their community. IMPH recently released a policy brief that includes recommendations on how county-level leadership can ensure older adults have opportunities for meaningful social engagement. https://lnkd.in/eY-D6W3h

IMPH hosted a Health Policy Fellows Program event yesterday for Legislative Staff. IMPH provides and translates research and data to inform health policy. Topic areas include, but are not limited to, access to care, behavioral health, health care workforce, healthy living, older adults, and rural health.

Last week, IMPH team members attended the 2024 Legislative Summit in Louisville, Kentucky. IMPH Health Policy Analyst Abigail Hubbard and IMPH Legislative Initiatives Coordinator Amelia Wilks had the opportunity to learn from and alongside policy experts and legislators from across the nation.
