The lastest video from Southeastern Aerial Imaging, LLC is posted on our YouTube channel. This video is an aerial and ground documentation of the Wilson Creek Half Marathon. It was a fun event to record, but even more so because the wife was one of the racers! For this video, I used a DJI Mini 4 Pro, which is essentially my travel drone. Small, lightweight, and easy to pack but has a great onboard camera which rivals its larger counterparts. It was a pleasure to fly. Aerial footage collected using a DJI Mavic 3 Pro during the Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina. It was an interesting case study of natural and artificial light, their affects on the unfiltered image, and how the images could be manipulated in post to provide viewers a variety of perspectives of a single location...the only difference being the direction in which the gimbal is pointed. The latest video is published on Southeastern Aerial Imaging, LLC's YouTube channel! In this video, I am flying the DJi Mini 4 Pro and taking a scenic tour around my home and farm across the road. The 4k video quality and editing really gave the final footage a nice cinematic look. For such a small drone and camera system, it really packs a punch and can be used for an array of applications. It was a rainy morning, so it made for a good opportunity to play with data taken by SEAI's DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone and DroneDeploy software. This particular drone is ideal for surveying and mapping due to its mechanical shutter, so there's less blurring of the images taken during flight. DroneDeploy software makes acquisition and processing very simple, and allows a rather user-friendly interface for further tools for analyses and product exports. In this case study, I surveyed a pecan orchard at 150 ft. AGL, with an 80% front and side overlap, and using RTK error corrections. The survey was carried out around 1000 hrs and completed within 45 minutes. Following data collection, the imagery data (1,460 images) was transferred to the processing computer in which all images were uploaded to DroneDeploy for cloud processing. Within a few hours, the processed data was available for review and further applications. As you can see in the collection of screenshots, I utilized several DroneDeploy tools to provide additional information beyond just the 2D orthophotomosaic and 3D photogrammetry model. The combination of the DJI M3E and DroneDeploy make for an impressive surveying package which is fast, efficient, and highly effective. There are additional surveys scheduled for the coming weeks involving archaeological research, and I hope to be able to showcase them, as well. This is an interesting and short video by 51 Drones regarding the update DJI will implement which may nullify any reasoning by U.S. lawmakers to ban the use of their products in the United States. It's a big issue which affects a lot of drone operators ranging from small businesses to the big boys who use DJI products as part of their workflow. Working in the shade this morning. For this survey, I'm running a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise for creating a 2D orthophotomosaic and 3D photogrammetric model with 80% front and side overlap. In addition to the using the DJI hardware, I'm running DroneDeploy software which allows me to plan the mission, execute the flight, and process the collected data. Another great aspect of using DroneDeploy is the ability to have built-in RTK error corrections in flight, which greatly improve the overall accuracy of the products. This, in conjunction with GCPs, makes for an impressive package. If you're not running some form of GPS error corrections, you're just taking pictures. Going to be flying a lot this weekend and through the next several weeks. It's an overcast day here in Lumberton, North Carolina, which makes it a great day to work with my new DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Goggles Integra, and DJI Motion 2 controller. Although this M4P lacks the capabilities of my DJI Enterprise series drones, it is a fun drone to fly with an impressive camera for such a small drone. The first person view (FPV) capabilties of this drone when paired with the goggles and wrist controller make it that much more fun to fly. Is this package a drone I would use for mapping and other survey work? No, but it's compact size makes it useful for hasty reconnaissance jobs and the FPV capabilities allow me to more effectively maneuver the drone through confined spaces with potential obstacles. That, combined with optional propeller guards, makes this a versatile little package.
