With increasing patient volumes and the lack of access to primary care or specialists, individuals are using the Emergency Department simply out of convenience not for urgent medical problems or emergencies. EDs can quickly become overrun by non-urgent patients, hospital resources can be misused, and the staff overworked which leads to higher healthcare costs and lower standard of patient care. Dr. Michael Kelly is joining us from Pennsylvania where he is completing his Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency at Geisinger Medical Center. Dr. Kelly will be moving to the area due to numerous family ties and his fiancée will be pursuing a master's degree in music therapy at Florida State University. He will begin with our Hospitalist program in early July.
