A huge thank you goes to Ryan McKinnon, CAMS, Senior Deposit Operations Fraud Analyst, and Jane Dever Barry, Banking Center Officer, for conducting an important seminar on identifying and avoiding scams for the Hanover Council of Aging last week. Ryan and Jane presented on the various types of scams that are out there and how they can be avoided, while participants in the audience also shared about their experiences and how they put a stop to scams they had encountered in the past. Ask Stephen DiPrete, Chief Commercial Banking Officer, and Cate Adams, Team Leader, why the Commercial Lending Team at South Shore Bank needed their own hard hats? They'll tell you, “The volume of site visits for projects we’re currently funding required them!” As far as sharing success with our clients, Jim Dunphy, CPA, CMA, South Shore Bank CEO stated, “For our partnership with Silko Auto Group, it means putting on our South Shore Bank blue hard hats and visiting them at the construction site of their new dealership in Easton to check out the great progress they are making.” Check out some scenes from the meeting and be on the lookout for updates on their upcoming opening. Last week, Metro South Chamber of Commerce and the New England Real Estate Journal hosted a Housing & Transit Summit. Presenters included MassDOT Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt and Brockton Area Transit Authority Administrator Michael Lambert – both speaking on the critical need for housing near transportation. Bridgewater State University President Fred Clark moderated a panel with CHAPA CEO Rachel Heller, Schochet EVP Peter Lewis, Hajjar Management's Paul Mahoney, and South Shore Bank's Chief Commercial Banking Officer Stephen DiPrete. The MBTA Communities Act was a topic of interest with Stephen DiPrete, furthering the Bank's commitment to transit-oriented housing. He cited Petruzziello Properties’ development of The Block at 22 Everett Street in Westwood – a muti-unit mixed-use development - which includes affordable housing near the commuter rail as an example. He remarked, “Local developers genuinely prioritize community well-being.” Read more about this development here: https://hubs.li/Q02V4s820

Great day out in the Braintree community volunteering at the Nelson Chin Memorial Fund Golf Tournament with my South Shore Bank colleagues Joanne Tully & Andrew Chin. Such an incredible turnout in support of the Chin Family!
This morning was a treat for the hundreds who were in attendance of the Quincy Chamber of Commerce Leadership Series Breakfast. South Shore Bank CEO, Jim Dunphy had the honor of moderating a special chat with local legend, Marty Walsh. As many of you know, Marty's background includes a variety of impressive experiences including State Representative, Mayor of Boston, Secretary of Labor under the Biden administration, and most recently - Executive Director of the NHL Players' Association. There was a special energy in the room as the dialogue flowed between Jim and Marty, shedding years of insights gained from his unique experiences in both the public and private sector. As the audience made up of local business leaders and elected officials watched, Walsh touched on topics including leadership, bipartisanship, the upcoming election, and even his predictions for the Stanley Cup, which he declined to provide. Thank you to Tim Cahill and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce for pulling the strings to make this event possible. In times like this, it's important to keep your guards up against charity scams so your donations can go to those in need. Read these tips from the Federal Trade Commission so you can do the right research and plan your donations properly. They even have some resources to help you verify the charity you are planning to make a donation to. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gF5r8Psq
