On this day in 1922, we established #NavyDay. The New York Navy League council proposed that the official observance be held on October 27th in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt. This date also marks the anniversary of a 1775 report from a special committee of the Continental Congress, advocating for the purchase of merchant ships as the foundation of an American Navy.
