Soybean Disease Watch for West Africa: Key Threats and Management Practices Effective disease management is critical to safeguarding yields with the soybean season underway in West African countries like Benin, Ghana, and Nigeria. Diseases such as soybean rust, red leaf blotch, and frogeye leaf spot pose significant risks to soybean production, with potential yield losses reaching up to 90%. In our latest bulletin, we cover the most important diseases and provide practical management advice to help farmers overcome these challenges. After our successful survey work in #soybean fields in western Kenya together with Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Njoro teams, we proceeded to train on recovery and storage of rust samples for use in further analysis. The training was a success and we have already recovered 33 soybean rust spores samples that will be used for diversity studies using the soybean rust differential set. Thanks @EmilyOnyango for the excellent technical support. Soybean Innovation Lab International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) 2Blades CGIAR Excellence in Agronomy Initiative
