🚀 What happens when you dare to rethink the impossible? SpaceX has done just that by pushing the boundaries of rocket science and transforming what we once believed was unachievable—reusable rockets. In my latest blog post, "Redefining Rocketry: How SpaceX’s Pursuit of Reusability Sparks Revolutionary Innovation," I explore how bold, out-of-the-box thinking has led to groundbreaking advancements in space exploration. At Spacedani, we're inspired by this approach. We believe that innovation thrives when we challenge the status quo and think beyond traditional boundaries. Whether it’s space tech, entrepreneurship, or engineering, out-of-the-box ideas are the key to driving the next wave of breakthroughs. 👉 Curious to learn more? Our long-term goal is to create an inclusive organization with Diversity & Belonging as a starting point rather than an afterthought. We seek to provide professionals with outer-space curiosity a platform upon which to build meaningful projects with diverse teams. We hope that in the future we can offer paid internships and fellowships and paid positions at market rates to those professionals, with a transparent and equitable compensation policy. Our “Big Hairy Audacious Goal” (aka ‘moonshot’) is to use this platform as a base to gather donations that will fund not only our people incubator, but make possible an annual giving campaign devoted to financing Internships and Fellowships for Women in Science and Engineering, to making meaningful scholarship awards to non-traditional students who are returning to school after taking time off to start a family or pursue other interests, and meaningful student loan debt relief to former students.

Super cool lightkurve work by our Exonauts this fall!
Data Scientist | Machine Learning Enthusiast | Analytical Chemistry Background | Python, SQL, Data Wrangling & Visualization | Fountain Pen Nerd
I'm thrilled to be participating in SpaceLab's Exoplanet Hackathon! 🚀 As a bit of a space nerd, it's the perfect chance for me to dive into a fascinating project while flexing my data analysis and science skills. There’s so much new knowledge to absorb, and I'll admit, it’s a little overwhelming at times. A former manager of mine would say, "The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time," (thanks Steve) and I’m keeping that in mind. Right now, I’m focusing on mastering the Lightkurve library—an amazing Python tool that simplifies analyzing light curve data from NASA’s Kepler and TESS missions. On top of that, I’m finally getting to explore AWS Sagemaker, something I've been eager to learn for a while. It’s exciting to be part of a project like the Exoplanetarium, and I can’t wait to see where this journey leads. The more I learn, the more I realize there’s so much more to discover. Looking forward to helping make this project great and continuing to grow along the way! #DataScience #SpaceExploration #AlwaysLearning

It’s a question I often hear: why allocate so much money and resources to space missions when issues like poverty, inflation, and international conflicts demand attention? Today The SpaceLab is excited to announce our new Executive Director. Please join me in congratulating our leadership mentor, @Michael Loss who has accepted the role as the new Executive Director the SpaceLab! Matthew Paterson will remain the President of the Board of Directors and will continue to be a leader of our organization, both from an oversight position on the Board and a larger presence in supporting recruitment where needed, messaging, and fundraising. Decisions about the company day-to-day management, budget, projects, and staffing and volunteers will now be under Mike's purview, assisted and supported by the advisors and directors around him. Mike will report to Matt Paterson, President. Before coming to the SpaceLab, Mike was a Senior Manager & Data Scientist at Capgemini where he worked for six years on various Data and AI projects. Mike has been volunteering and participating at the SpaceLab as a leadership mentor, working with Vera Dureke, our Data Science Lead, and also offering thoughts on the strategic direction and the fundraising position of our organization. Mike brings with him experience in high tech and IT transformation, AI and Data Science, Higher Education, and even finance and investor trading. We are excited about his interest in promoting our mission, in nonprofits in general, and his intended efforts to both grow our recruitment and presence in communities historically under-served and underrepresented in the tech and aerospace industry, and his focus on continuing to establish the SpaceLab as a brand and an institution among donors and strategic corporate partners. We are very excited about Mike's enthusiasm and drive, and his positive attitude around building cool and nerdy stuff and lifting up the people around him in everything that he does! Welcome to the SpaceLab (again) Mike! We're excited to work with you! https://spacelab.space
