Recap of a great event last week by SPANVentures. & Laurent Span, where VC & family offices shared their reactions to Q1 2024, asking, “Did VC’s Get it Right?” The panel was just as candid and insightful as it was engaging. My 3 takeaways: 1. Capital calls by slowed, which foreshadowed funds taking an even more selective approach to investments. Not a shocker but still tough to hear. 2. High inflation rates translate to higher burn rates. Now, the *key* metric investors look for is company discipline with burn management. On a call today with a client raising its Series A round, I couldn’t stress this enough. Being able to reference this panel definitely gave me more cred! 3. Cooley’s bathrooms are nicer than most airport lounges, and honestly, I’d expect nothing less 😂

🙋♂️ On Tuesday I had the opportunity to attend such a great event, hosted by Laurent Span, Founder/GP of SPANVentures. for a Breaking Barriers of VC panel on, “Did VC’s Get it Right?”. The panel which consisted of Ruben A. Austin, Spencer Chandlee, Naomi Goez, Zehra Naqvi and Ankit Agarwal - was one of the most informative and entertaining as I could remember. I couldn't help but take notes the whole time while pausing for a couple of laughs along the way. Here are some of my takeaways: 🎈 RE: #inflation, what does $1M get me in the US compared to EU? ❓ Ask yourself - How can you slow down the process and ensure you're hiring the best talent you can? ➕ RE: #GenAI, more likely to invest in companies that help us be better humans, instead of replacing humans. Think AI therapy versus AI girlfriend etc 🦄 Unicorns of today took ~7 years to hit that status, #GenAI companies have taken half of that amount of time ⏳ VCs are spending a lot more time w/ founders before investing. Sometimes 5x dilligence. 💰 Introduce burn management from the moment you write the check I'm looking forward to more of these events this year, and following the Breaking Barriers of VC community! See you all at the next one for sure!! P.S - Cooley LLP has one of the best locations in NYC for events. The views and atmosphere never dissapoint!
