About us
The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc. (SPF) is a national, not-for-profit, voluntary organization incorporated in February, 2002. It is the only organization in the Americas dedicated to Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP). SPF is committed to providing information about for these disorders, creating opportunities for mutual support and sharing, and discovering the cures for HSP and PLS by funding research. These closely related upper motor neuron disorders affect some 24,000 children and adults across the United States and Canada. The SPF is dedicated to finding the cures for these conditions and providing information and support services.

Thank you Dr. Ozdinler for introducing SPFoundation to #Akava and Dr. Richard B. Silverman as a 2024 Annual Conference sponsor. Great therapies could be realized on a potential treatment called NU9, the first compound identified that improves the health of upper motor neurons. #ChampionCures #healhumanity Originally identified by Dr. Silverman, who invented the drug Lyrica (pregabalin) and formed the upper motor neuron disease-based company Akava Theraputics, NU9 appears to overcome all four areas of identified cellular dysfunction and improves the function of upper motor neurons in diseased Spastin-UeGFP transgenic mice. Further research is needed but the early results are encouraging. P.
