SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technical Section, previously known as the SPE WIN WoMen in Hydraulic Fracturing community. The purpose of this Section shall be to further the objectives of the Society in the open discussion of matters relating to hydraulic fracturing, to generate awareness on industry best practices, and to promote those practices widely. The Vision of the Hydraulic Fracturing Technical Section is as follows: Capability development related to Hydraulic Fracturing technology through on-line events, online networking, workshops, and conferences. Encourage SPE global outreach and diversity, with emphasis on recognition of professional women in the oilfield, and their contribution to the hydraulic fracturing community. This should include having an event recognizing women in hydraulic fracturing at the Hydraulic Fracturing Conferences annually. Transfer of knowledge and best practices through meetings, events, communications, articles in JPT, TWA, and other SPE publications; technical papers and presentations; and SPE Connect. Promotion of professionalism, certification, and Distinguished Lecturer programming applicable to hydraulic fracturing operations. Nomination of worthy candidates for SPE Awards in the domain. Promote sustainability and mitigate the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing in pursuit of operational excellence. Encourage the digitalization and automation of hydraulic fracturing technology. Support for public education through contributions and student engagement. The FASTS will recognize female professionals in the oil field and their contribution in the community through representations in leadership positions at the Board of Directors levels and at other areas of activities such as giving them opportunities to present within the technical section.

Title Monitoring next-generation horizontal Enhanced Geothermal Systems using Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing Abstract Fervo Energy is developing horizontal Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and executed multiple Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) data acquisition campaigns during plug-and-perf stimulation, well-testing, and production phases. The geologic formations in these reservoirs include phyllite, diorite, granodiorite, and granite, reaching temperatures of up to 430°F. The study demonstrated that DFOS data, including in-well Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS), cross-well low-frequency DAS (LF-DAS), and Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS), are vital for geothermal resource development, particularly for completion and well-spacing optimization. The first part of this work summarizes the DFOS results from project RED (based on materials presented at SPE-217810-MS and URTEC-3852680-MS), focusing on the stimulation, well-testing, and production phases using data acquired with three wells equipped with permanent fiber optic cables. The second part presents the DFOS results from a recent three-well hydraulic stimulation at project CAPE, where data were recorded using two permanently installed fibers. Two temporarily deployed fibers (wireline and single use) were added to monitor the first stimulation treatment. The paper highlights successes and challenges encountered during the DFOS monitoring, detailing how the data obtained enabled the characterization of hydraulic fractures and calibration of reservoir simulations. Bio Dr. Titov is a senior geophysicist at Fervo Energy. He is responsible for optimizing enhanced geothermal reservoir performance using distributed fiber optic sensing data and is involved in shaping Fervo’s research and development strategy. Dr. Titov received a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines, where he worked on laboratory testing, numerical modeling, and analysis of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) data for reservoir monitoring applications. First, we investigate the Chow Pressure Group (CPG) technique, and: (a) explain why the CPG has a qualitative association with the strength of production interference, (b) assess the conditions under which the CPG reaches a stable long-term plateau during the typical duration of a test, and (c) if it does, explain whether this plateau has a physical interpretation. Next, we study the Devon Quantification of Interference (DQI) technique, and: (a) use the ‘two-well’ Degree of Production Interference (DPI) metric to derive a relationship for a ‘uniform-spacing’ DPI that is applicable for a well bounded on both sides, and (b) develop a procedure to calculate a generalized DPI that accounts for arbitrary gun-barrel configurations, spatially variable fracture conductivity, and anisotropy. The new generalized DPI technique is validated by applying to a field dataset where extended shut-ins (2+ days) were performed months after the interference tests, allowing independent assessment of the interference test interpretations. The generalized DPI procedure: (a) provides fracture conductivity measurements that can be used in general-purpose reservoir engineering calculations, and (b) enables rapid ‘what-if’ analysis to test the economic impact of modifying well configuration. Biography: Mark McClure established ResFrac in 2015 to help operators maximize value through the application of advanced geomechanics and reservoir simulation. Before founding ResFrac, Mark was an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. After earning a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering and a Master of Science in petroleum engineering from Stanford University, Mark earned a PhD in energy resources engineering at Stanford.
