Transforming Lives Through the Power of the Arts
About us
The Sphinx Organization is dedicated to transforming lives through the power of the arts. Focused on increasing representation in classical music and celebrating excellence, Sphinx programs serve beginner students, seasoned classical music professionals, cultural entrepreneurs, and administrators. Based in Detroit, Michigan, but with national and global reach, Sphinx envisions a day where every young person has the opportunity to express themselves and learn classical music, where audiences reflect the people we see on our streets, and where leadership – on stage and off – includes all deserving voices. Our work transforms lives by addressing the systemic lack of access within Black and Latino communities. We are working toward a future in which our art form reflects our greater society.

✨ We are proud to share that Sphinx SPA Alum Adam Mandela Walden was honored with the Advocate Award by The Learning Rights Law Center on October 27th. 🎶 At just 11 years old, Adam performed Bach’s Cello Suites before a federal judge, shining a spotlight on the exclusion of students with special needs from LAUSD’s magnet school programs. His moving performance prompted an immediate order to include all special needs students in the magnet school lottery, ensuring fair access to educational opportunities. Adam’s advocacy not only made history but also changed the course of special education in Los Angeles, becoming the first student to ride a magnet school bus with his communication paraprofessional. His story is a powerful testament to the intersection of music and social justice. #SphinxAlum #AdvocateAward #EducationReform #Inclusion #LeadershipThroughArt
