Last week we wrapped on another Tech Week in Grand Rapids. This is a week long event with over 15,000 attendees and 70+ events covering a variety of topics. Here are key takeaways from our CEO, Kim Burmeister and our CTO, Brian Tol. ⭐ Tech is about more than Tech: Product leadership and design are important parts of a healthy tech ecosystem. Balancing technological innovation and human-centered design creates more meaningful and impactful solutions. ⭐Breaking Down Barriers: Only 2% of VC funds are given to female founders. Most VC investors bet on founders that look like them. Therefore, we also need more women involved in venture financing. Kim was happy to meet several women now actively working in the West MI region with venture firms. ⭐Predicting the Future is Difficult but Essential: Attempting to predict the future is an important skill. Stephen Dubner's historical example of shifting from horse-driven transport to cars shows that the solutions to large problems often come from unexpected sources. ⭐AI is still King: There were many sessions on this topic as the tech industry explores the impacts, progress, and possibilities of the next wave of innovation. Creative destruction is coming and we can expect to see new ways of working in the years ahead. ⭐ Startups and Enterprises: They need each other and need to start talking sooner. One of the best Tech Week events was Lakeshore Advantage's innovation summit. They did a deep dive into how startups and enterprises work together. There are many misconceptions about how each works and what their needs are. They need to engage earlier, get to the ask sooner, and innovate collaboratively to reduce misunderstandings.
