Last week, the Sports Business Initiative had the opportunity to visit the Topgolf Callaway Brands headquarters in Carlsbad, CA. From innovation to company culture, it was inspiring to see firsthand how they’re redefining sports entertainment and performance gear. A huge thank you to Jenn Smith and Zack Oakley for taking the time to share their experiences and offer our members advice as they navigate the sports industry. As we wrap up the 2023-2024 year, Sports Business Initiative was fortunate to receive two awards from the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University: 🏆 Most Improved Organization of the Year 🏆 CBC Representative of the Year - James Jude None of this would be possible without the support we received throughout the year. Thank you to our members for being attentive at our meetings and making this year possible. Thank you to our speakers for sharing their experiences and providing valuable insight into the sports industry. And lastly, thank you to the executive board for all the hard work this year. 

As an alumni of the Sports Business Initiative SDSU (SBI), I had the privilege to speak at their Annual Sports Business Summit last week! I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without this program and I am blessed for everything it has provided me with in both the business and sports world, as well as in life itself. After connecting with the next generation of business leaders, all I can say is that our bench is DEEP, and I hope to be able to give other people the same opportunities that I had within this program. I am deeply honored to contribute to the discourse on business and leadership, and I am excited to further grow in this ever-evolving journey. Once again, thank you to SDSU SBI for your ongoing support and belief in me. Here's to many more opportunities to create, collaborate, and inspire!

On Sunday April 7th, I had the opportunity to attend the 10th annual Sports Business Initiative SDSU (SBI) Summit at San Diego State University. It was truly a surreal experience. I remembering being a young college student looking to find a job and attending professional conferences and summits to network and learn from leaders in the industry. I told myself at that age, "I hope one day I can be a speaker for an event like this." Being the youngest panelist on Sunday, this dream finally became a reality. I was able to share some wisdom with young college kids looking to breakout in their careers, and hopefully motivate them to continue to work hard to achieve their goals. Thank you to Trevor Fleming for such an amazing event. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to continue to inspire other young professionals along the way.

The 10th Annual Sports Business Summit is right around the corner! This Sunday, April 7th, Summit will take place from 9 AM - 4 PM in Montezuma Hall in the Aztec Student Union. You don’t want to miss out! This year we will be having premier sports agent Leigh Steinberg to kick us off followed by our first panel Theresa Villano Reed, Angela LaChica, Andrew Grant, and Nic Glazer to talk about their experience and the reality of working in sports. After we break for lunch catered by L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, we will start our next panel of professional speakers which will include Stefani Polonia, Anthony Baldini, Nikta Adhami, and Dr. Erkut Sogut LL.M. to explain their journey. With the day and age that we are in and with the relevance of social media, Stephen A. Eriksen will wrap us up to highlight the importance of building a personal brand and networking through the number one business tool, LinkedIn. But that is not all! Another great site visit is in the books for Sports Business Initiative! Last week, our members had the chance to tour Callaway Golf Headquarters in Carlsbad and learn about all of the great benefits of being an employee at Callaway. We gained insights from various employees and learned about their paths to their current roles. Thank you to the speakers, Mackenzie, Paul, Bjoern, Hannah, and Nate for their engaging presentations. Their stories of career progression and advice for aspiring sports business professionals truly inspired us. Thank you also to Christina, Jacquelyn, and Amanda for their efforts in making this a successful event. Following the speaker presentations, we were offered insight into the range of opportunities available within Topgolf Callaway Brands and how our members can get involved in the sports industry. Lastly, we were given a tour of the amazing facility in Carlsbad led by Olivia.
