About us
As the Sports Development Department of VisitPITTSBURGH, SportsPITTSBURGH's primary goal is to attract and host a wide variety of sporting events in Allegheny County. Our team provides the experience and expertise in sports development, marketing and event planning that has helped establish the Pittsburgh region as a legendary sports town. From the moment you choose Pittsburgh, SportsPITTSBURGH offers a wide range of event services to ensure the success of every event. Our department is part of the larger sport tourism industry, which is a broad spectrum. We attract sport events of all sizes, of all skill levels and of all sports. With these events come the visitors and participants who, in turn, help the economy of our city via hotel room stays, eating out at restaurants and buying tickets to sporting events in the region. These organizations like ours work with representatives in sales, with individual venues and with the planner(s) for each event coming to the city to create the best possible experience for all involved. In the U.S., there are 110 sport commissions specifically created to handle sports events for their city.

Members of our SportsPITTSBURGH and David L. Lawrence Convention Center teams had an incredible experience last week at the largest edition of the TEAMS Conference & Expo, presented by SportsTravel and hosted by Visit Anaheim!👏 We had the opportunity to engage in over 30 one-on-one appointments with event planners, promoting Pittsburgh as a premier destination for exciting and impactful events. The conference was a fantastic mix of networking, business development, and educational opportunities, showcasing emerging trends in the sports industry. A Historic Week in Pittsburgh!🏆 Last week was an absolute home run as we proudly welcomed the 2024 Special Olympics North America Softball Championship alongside the Special Olympics U.S. Business Meeting – and it was nothing short of amazing! From the Opening Ceremony to the Championship game, and every unforgettable moment in between – tailgates, drone shows, dance parties, and fierce competition – this event was filled with excitement and energy. This was a huge milestone for Special Olympics Pennsylvania, as it marked the first time the state has hosted a Special Olympics National Championship. To the 300+ athletes from 25 teams across 13 states and Canada, thank you for a memorable week!👏🎉 SportsPITTSBURGH was thrilled to collaborate with Andrew Fee and his incredible team to deliver a seamless and unforgettable event experience all week long. A huge thank you to our partners for bringing our vision to life— from creating a name wall to turning these athletes into their very own collectibles! We can’t wait to welcome these inspiring athletes back to Pittsburgh soon! #SportsBiz #sportstourism #pittsburgh #specialyolympics #SONA #Softball
