In August, MILLSUMMIT attendees were able to provide Spotlight Delaware journalists with story ideas, and then vote on the 5 finalists. This story had the top vote! More than 120,000 people in Delaware are estimated to face food insecurity, and food prices continue to rise due to various factors like war and climate change. While the state government works to address the issue through the Delaware Grocery Initiative, Delawareans are taking it upon themselves to counteract the rising burden. https://lnkd.in/eZ8Qfh7a

We are pleased to announce Patricia V. Rivera, founder and CEO of Hook PR & Marketing , as the new chair of the Local Journalism Initiative board of directors. Patricia, a Lewes resident and longtime leader in Delaware’s Latino communities, will lead LJI’s board as the organization strives to increase its service to Spanish speakers. LJI’s Delaware Journalism Collaborative recently published the first bilingual Voters Guide: https://bit.ly/3z5itWx. Meanwhile, Spotlight Delaware – LJI’s community-powered, collaborative, nonprofit newsroom – will begin providing bilingual local news and information by the end of this year. A founding member of the LJI board, Patricia rejoined earlier this year following a two-year hiatus. “Stepping into this role feels like a natural progression in my journey with LJI,” Rivera said. “The goal is for our bilingual content to reflect and elevate the voices and experiences of Delaware’s Latino communities. I’m eager to guide LJI into this next chapter of growth and innovation.” Patricia succeeds Amy Cherry, who led LJI’s board with distinction for the past two years. Under Amy’s leadership, LJI made significant strides in fulfilling its mission. Learn more about Patricia and this exciting new initiative: https://bit.ly/3Xpm9dH #NetDE #SpotlightDE #DelawareNews

The Rodney Reservoir, the second highest point in Wilmington, has been preserved as a community green space thanks to local efforts. Instead of using taxpayer money to demolish the almost 4-acre land to be sold off for privatization, the space is now being transformed into a community park that will serve Wilmington residents for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/eAtqhfSh
