Join us this National Health Center Week in reflecting on the inspiring history of Community Health Centers, which have their roots in the Civil Rights Movement and War on Poverty of the 1960s. Visionary community activists and reform-minded physicians established the first Community Health Centers in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, and Boston to fight poverty, advance health equity, and empower communities. In the process, they launched a national movement. Today, health centers are the largest primary care network in the United States, serving 32.5 million patients nationwide.
