Building a vibrant and inclusive community where every individual can reach their full potential.

About us

St. David’s Foundation is one of the largest health foundations in the United States, funding over $80 million annually in a five-county area surrounding Austin, Texas. Through a unique partnership with St. David’s HealthCare, we strategically reinvest proceeds from the hospital system back into the community, with the goal of advancing health equity and improving the health and well-being of our most underserved Central Texas neighbors. Beyond our grantmaking work, we operate the largest mobile dental program in the country providing charity care and offer the largest healthcare scholarship program in Texas, the St. David’s Neal Kocurek Program. Through investments and action, we are committed to centering health equity in all that we do so that all Central Texans have a fair chance to achieve optimal health with no avoidable, unjust, or systematically caused differences in health status due to ethnicity, race, age, ability, or geography.

We believe in building a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone can flourish. We also know that as our five-county region experiences rapid population growth, and the corresponding cost of living and housing rises, there is an increasing number of people who cannot make ends meet. For those residing in Travis county, we invite you to learn more about what’s on the ballot this year and how our community can help to support access to affordable child care. https://lnkd.in/gWGkQJjW

On October 3, our Vice President of Community Programs Julian Huerta joined AISD Parent Support Specialists in a conversation about the St. David’s Mobile Dental Program. Their insights and experience working closely with families helps to guide and inform our the free oral health services we bring to Title I elementary schools in Central Texas. Parent Support Specialists play a vital role in connecting families to essential resources in our schools and communities. Their main goal is for students and their parents to feel a greater sense of belonging and connection to the district and their schools. With over 50 dental team members on our clinical and operations staff, we’re proud to operate the largest charity-based mobile dental program in the country, serving more than 4,000 students annually. St. David’s Foundation’s vision is a vibrant and inclusive community in which every individual can flourish and reach their full potential. Realizing this vision will require developing mechanisms and resources like Family Resource Centers (FRCs), which serve as hubs for services and opportunities designed to strengthen families and communities. By centering community needs, priorities, and voices; FRCs take a strengths-based approach to ensure families can thrive. Through research with the Texas Alliance of Child & Family Services, we invite you to explore findings from stakeholders on how the Family Resource Center model can best be used to strengthen Central Texas families and communities. At the Healthier Texas Summit today, we hosted an important conversation about growing the size and diversity of the healthcare workforce in Texas so that we can deliver quality, affordable healthcare to the residents of our state. There isn’t a simple solution to address this complex challenge, but there are many organizations and individuals doing impactful work in the community to create practical solutions, and we were delighted bring some of those committed leaders together for this discussion. Thank you to our Senior Program Officer Amy Einhorn and our panelists Ashley King of Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Alyssia Palacios-Woods, CFRE of Capital IDEA, Janice Bruno of SWTC Career Tracks, Karen L. Serna, AFC® of Austin Community College, and to our moderator, Olivia Aldridge, from KUT & KUTX Public Media.

Last week, our President and CEO, Dr. Edward Burger, joined a panel discussion alongside the CEO of Seedling Foundation, Dan Leal, and COO of Texas Health and Human Services, Maurice McCreary Jr., to discuss the Seedling Mentorship Program and its efforts to mitigate the impact of parental incarceration on children in Central Texas. “It’s both meaningful and fulfilling to serve as a Seedling Mentor as well as capturing the spirit of the collective work we’re doing at the Foundation to advance health equity. This mentorship program has an enormous impact in our communities, as it inspires uplifting generational change for children who have their whole lives ahead of them.” — Dr. Edward Burger, President and CEO of St. David’s Foundation In the greater Austin area, an estimated 10,000 children face the impacts of having incarcerated parents. Seedling actively recruits community volunteers, matches them with eligible children, and provides ongoing support to foster resilience and empower these young lives. Visit seedlingmentors.org to learn more about how you can support and get involved.

Today, St. David’s Foundation announced $16.5M in grant funding to 38 Central Texas organizations that are doing vital work to foster healthier communities and increase access to health care. The focus and goals of the We All Benefit and Community Driven Change open calls were informed by conversations with our community and grant partners to address current needs and areas of opportunity for our region as the Foundation works to advance health equity across Central Texas. “We are inspired by the exciting community-centered and equity-driven work shared with us through these funding opportunities,” said Regan Gruber Moffitt, VP of Community Investments, St. Davids Foundation. “The response to these two open calls demonstrated the strong commitment of local organizations to address health disparities in our region – particularly for those who have historically had less power and opportunity.” We invite you to learn more about the grant recipients of these funding opportunities, including a data snapshot, here: https://lnkd.in/gw83YmFv
