Congratulations to Reagan Savell, 3 West ICU, who was named St. Dominic’s DAISY Award recipient for July 2024! The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. A patient’s family member nominated Reagan for the DAISY award because of the extraordinary love she shows her patients and their families every day. The nomination said, “Reagan displayed such compassionate love for a total stranger, and her desire to make my wife as comfortable as possible showed me she was a special kind of nurse. During my wife’s stay, she coded. Reagan was there to assist the other nurses in helping my wife stay alive. As a result, I had two major seizures due to my own health conditions. I left the unit knowing my wife was in good hands and returned hours later to check on my wife. As I walked into the unit, unable to speak or walk completely normal, Reagan was the first to come to me wanting to evaluate me to be sure I was okay. She was so concerned for my health as well as my wife’s health. Reagan is such a caring person and shows so much compassion and love for her patients. I always knew that every day she was my wife’s nurse I could feel secure that my wife would be okay.” Please join us in congratulating Reagan! St. Dominic’s 57 new nurse residents participated in a national patient safety escape room challenge last week. This was a combined effort with St. Dominic's Director of Performance Improvement Heather Barnes who gave a 30-minute lecture on national patient safety goals and why they are so important. The residents had to use information from the lecture to get out of the room. Way to go, team! St. Dominic’s Nurse Residency Program is a one-year program designed to support new graduate RNs or any RN with less than one year of experience. The goal is to help bridge the gap from classroom learning to real-life nursing practice. Learn more about our residency and nursing career opportunities at https://bit.ly/3WhqeSo

We were honored to host Sister Maria Alcina Alpande and Sister Maria Helena Moreira of Portugal, currently serving as General Minister and Assistant General, along with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady North American Region Sisters Ann Catherine and Barbara, at St. Dominic Hospital recently. Sister Alcina and Sister Helena's leadership from their base in Paris, France, ensures connections with FMOL Sisters in all 17 countries of our mission. As they travel to each of our ministries, we're especially proud to showcase the growth and transformation we've undergone as an integrated health system from our humble beginnings over 113 years ago by six brave FMOL Sisters who journeyed to Louisiana to answer God's call to provide care to those most in need.
