Our healthcare team is both caring AND creative! Here are the winners of this year's Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Congratulations to our Transport/EVS/Linen teams, who won 1st place. Public Safety and Human Resources placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. We give kudos to all of the departments for submitting such creative entries. The friendly competition reflects our great camaraderie, and the attention to detail mirrors the focus we give to our patients and the pride we take in doing our jobs well. Happy Halloween!

Our healthcare team was grateful for the opportunity to support the City of Lynwood's Halloween Festival planned for tomorrow evening. Our employees and physicians donated treats for the children's candy bags. Thank you, City of Lynwood, for giving kids and families a fun and safe way to celebrate this favorite fall tradition as a community!

Today we were proud to present the Family Life Center with our distinguished PETALS Award, which recognizes Passionately Engaged Teams Always Lending Support. The patient who nominated this collaborative group of colleagues said, "They are a different species when it comes to nursing. They carry themselves with dignity and respect and do the most to make sure patients are taken care of. They can be so busy, but they never forget you. They are kind, loving, and friendly. They make you feel at home." Thank you, Family Life Center team, for working together to ensure that every "special delivery" is met with outstanding delivery of service! Congratulations.

Congratulations, Sterling Valentine in Dietary Services. Sterling was honored with the prestigious BEE Award. The BEE award is given quarterly to non-nursing colleagues. BEE stands for Being Excellent Every Day, which Sterling exemplifies consistently and with a contagious smile. An employee shared an example of Sterling's amazing service at the grill. She was having difficulty placing an order for a custom wrap. As she was leaving empty-handed, Sterling came out and ensured her special order was placed, made, and rung up correctly. The employee said, "Sterling's kind gesture took less than five minutes of his time, but he made my entire day. I was not going to get anything for lunch after being advised that the grill only had tuna wraps. Now I have Sterling to thank for making it happen. He is truly appreciated." Many colleagues have similar stories about Sterling's above-and-beyond service and can-do attitude. Thank you, Sterling, for your commitment to providing exceptional service and to creating a positive experience for our patients' families, visitors, and staff.

At the Lynwood City Council meeting this week, Mayor Jose Solache and the council members presented St. Francis Medical Center with a proclamation in recognition of the services we provide to help prevent and detect breast cancer and the commitment we have to raising breast cancer awareness. CFO Terri Pasion accepted the proclamation on behalf of our healthcare team and extended our thanks for the partnership we have with the City of Lynwood to promote the health and well-being of residents throughout the community. It's another example of our Mission making friends and making a difference.

St. Francis Medical Center's healthcare team joined together to wear PINK in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., in 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. However, when caught in the earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Mammography exams are one of the best ways to detect cancer in its early stages, and we are proud to be part of this effort. St. Francis Medical Center performed 627 mammography exams in 2023 through its Women's Imaging Center. Awareness leads to action and to lives saved! Go Pink!

St. Francis Medical Center is grateful for the opportunity to do extraordinary work every day, and it's wonderful to be able to share some of the many successes made possible by the skill and commitment of our healthcare team. One recent case involved a 99-year-old woman who suffered a near-fatal stroke. However, through the prompt response of the family and first responders, the expertise and immediate action of our Stroke Team, and the advanced technology we have available, the woman made a miraculous recovery that amazed both her caregivers and loved ones. Here's the link to her story. https://lnkd.in/gHFFiHyd

The Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul – St. Vincent is known throughout the world as "The Father of Charity." He expressed his care for the community by sharing meals with families and ensuring that everyone had nourishing food to eat. With every gift of food, St. Vincent included an elegant napkin, letting recipients know that they were valued and deserved the best. In honor of St. Vincent's Feast Day on Sept. 27, our healthcare team prepared and delivered more than 500 healthy sack lunches -- with an elegant napkin -- to the children served by the Missionaries of Charity, St. Helen's Catholic School, and St. Lawrence of Brindisi School. It is a community collaboration filled with fun and good will and a tradition we are proud carry forward.
