The Supreme Court of Texas honored the legacy of former Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson with an official portrait unveiling on September 6. Justice Wallace B. Jefferson is Texas’ first African-American justice and chief justice. He served as chief justice from 2004 until he retired from the court in 2013. He made significant contributions to the state’s legal landscape, including reforming juvenile justice procedures, leading the court’s efforts to fund access-to-justice programs, inaugurating a statewide court electronic filing system, and broadcasting the Supreme Court’s oral arguments. Congratulations to former Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson! 👏🏼 #SCOTX #LegalNews

“I believe that service to others is essential to meeting our responsibility and fulfilling our oath. Yet, often, we find ourselves consumed by the demands of our practice. We work long hours, take home our clients’ and our own problems, constantly striving to solve complex issues and always zealously advocating for our clients and ourselves. We do not pause to consider why we’re doing all that we do.” In the September issue of the Texas Bar Journal, Texas Young Lawyers Association President Hisham Masri writes about finding your purpose, your “why” as a lawyer, and what drew you to the legal profession.
