It was definitely “spooky season” last week at SNC as our teammates once again exercised their abundant creativity in our annual Halloween Costume Challenge 🎃👻 This is an event our employees look forward to all year and the competition is fierce! Congratulations to our three individual winners and to our PAR (Program Analysis & Reporting) department for being “spot on” in conquering this year’s department challenge! Right on the heels of Halloween was Día de los Muertos, which we also celebrated in true SNC style. Big thanks to our UN1DOS Employee Resource Group for once again creating a Day of the Dead ofrenda to honor the loved ones and pets shared by SNC employees — three times as many offerings as last year! — plus delicious Pan de Muertos and information about the history and meaning of the holiday ☠ #Halloween #CostumeParty #DiaDeLosMuertos #tradition #celebrations

Another State National Female Executive Networking (FEN) Retreat is in the books! This year, our guests joined us in Savannah, GA, where speaker and workshop leader Dr. Rebecca Heiss, PhD facilitated an insightful discussion about managing fears to improve leadership and build stronger teams. After a day filled with learning and networking, we enjoyed a guided tour of Savannah, exploring its rich roots and history. We topped it all off with a delightful dinner featuring southern cuisine in the heart of the city's Historic District. We're celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) at State National! We enjoyed several special events hosted by the SNC chapter of Markel's employee-led UN1DOS Latin and Hispanic Professionals group, including deliciosos Mexican treats – nieve de garrafa (sorbet) and elote (street corn) – in our vibrantly decorated cafe! And the fun has continued with Latin American flag trivia, a Latin/Hispanic flag colors dress-up challenge, the Mexican board game Loteria, and the kick-off of this year's sign-ups for the UN1DOS annual Spanish 101 classes.
