Massachusetts would have been the third state, behind Oregon and Colorado, to decriminalize the use of some psychedelics. One stark lesson learned from Oregon, the first to legalize, was that the cost of setting up its system of oversight made the opportunity out of reach for many residents, with one psychedelics session typically costing more than $1,000. #mentalhealth #psychedelics #decriminalization #massachussetts #colorado #publichealth https://lnkd.in/dx7kfeq8

In all, nearly 5,000 more people of color died from overdoses in 2023 than in 2021, while deaths among white people dropped by more than 6,000, according to the analysis of provisional data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As of early this year, based on partial counts, Black and Native people remain the hardest hit, having earlier in the pandemic surpassed white rates. Hispanic and Asian people are still experiencing more overdose deaths as well. #healthequity #stopoverdose #publichealth https://lnkd.in/dTRQYSDm

The U.S. health care system, “by its very design, delivers different outcomes for different populations,” said a June report from the The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Those racial and ethnic inequities “also contribute to millions of premature deaths, resulting in loss of years of life and economic productivity.” Over a recent two-decade span, mounting research shows, the United States has made almost no progress in eliminating racial disparities in key health indicators, even as political and public health leaders vowed to do so. #publichealth #healthequity #healthcare https://lnkd.in/gQPWDrwy
