"Somebody is counting on you to get this right." This quote from Francella Ochillo perfectly encapsulates the energy of this year's STEM Innovation Forum. Her clear dedication to serving the people of our nation had the entire room applauding, and I saw this theme throughout the conference. Yes, this week was the STEM Innovation Forum in Las Vegas! What an absolute JOY it was to attend for the second time in a row - and this time, as the Founder and CEO of my own nonprofit! 💖 I can't begin to describe how happy I was to return to this community - as soon as I started seeing familiar faces, it was like 2023 in Denver all over again. THANK YOU to the incredible team who made this event happen: Ted (Theodore) W., Heather Sherman, Renee Aaron, Kylie M., and so many more from STEMconnector, STEMx, Battelle, and Million Women Mentors . Highlights: 🌟 Listening to Stephanie Rodriguez, Ph.D.'s talk about the STEMM Opportunity Alliance and imagining how my work with Speak Out Sisterhood will be able to fit in with their national framework for advancing equity in STEM. 👏 The reveal of the 2024 Girls and STEM Report from Ruling Our eXperiences, Inc. (ROX) by none other than Lisa Hinkelman, Ph.D. herself. I'm so excited to integrate these new findings into our Generation YES internship program. 🤗 Reuniting with SO many wonderful people - Colleen Bielitz, Ph.D., Jo Webber, Dr. Jillian Cadwell, Radhika Raghavan, Thomas D. Phillips IV, Maria Reyes Lisa Hinkelman, Ph.D. and more! 💬 The incredible talk from Julie Newman on how we need to revolutionize the way we TALK about STEM to young girls. It's not often an issue speaks to me so deeply that I find myself immersed in a forty-five minute conversation with the presenter and yet there we were. 😂 Thank you, Julie, for the amazing work you're doing! 💖 So many new connections!! It was fantastic to meet in person Brittany Brady, Ed.M., CAP®️, Katherine Mulholland, Martha McCabe, Tim Melton, Mark Muzzin, Roger Garcia , Ph.D., Jason Coleman, Janine Koeneke, and more. And what could be more special than closing the evening reception by meeting the President of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas himself? Keith Whitfield's dedication to student success is truly inspiring to me as a undergraduate and as a social entrepreneur, and it was such an honor to share with him my work empowering college women through Speak Out Sisterhood. All in all, I'm missing this conference and this community already, but my three pages of new ideas for my nonprofit is reminding me why, as much as I would love to, I can't live in a conference forever. 🥲 Thank you to the entire team for putting together another masterful event, and I'm looking forward to representing Speak Out Sisterhood and our work in social entrepreneurial experiential learning at next year's STEM Innovation Forum. 💖 Sheila Boyington, Latia Gary, STEM Next Opportunity Fund, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Honors Carolina

And that’s a wrap in Vegas at the STEMconnector and STEMx Innovation Forum - finished Day 2 serving on a panel with esteemed researchers ASCD Keisha Chandler, Ed.D. & SRI Leigh Ann DeLyser and industry partner, Texas Instruments Scott Sedberry facilitated by my (and probably many of ours) STEM GOAT Jeff Weld. Great way to bring research to our communities - don’t confuse data for research! Big picture takeaways: 1. University of Nevada-Las Vegas is a top ranked institution for social mobility with intentionality around math and lifting up students. Rama Venkat and Kate Hausbeck Korgan, Ph.D. 2. Confident girls grow up to be brave leaders of tomorrow. ~ROX The Girls Index 3. Skills in Python are required for AI development 4. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) ‘s Francella Ochillo is a rock star. Bring her to your city to inspire and motivate. 5. Develop cultural humility!! Also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Ted (Theodore) W. and new friends, Maria Reyes & Roger Garcia , Ph.D. If that is what community STEM education looks like, I’m all in! Lastly my table mates today are continuing to change the STEM landscape, Alyssa L. Briggs, PhD, Rachel Tompkins Erica Compton and of course my Project Lead The Way colleague, Glade Montgomery, Ph.D. And always love time with Brittany Brady, Ed.M., CAP®️ Stephanie Rodriguez, Ph.D. and Teresa Drew

Day 2 of the #STEMInnovationForum and I had the pleasure of networking with the future of STEM! Buyi Owo-Odusi Serena Akpoyibo Savannah Donaldson Shakylah Glover are WiSEN Initiative scholars who will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on their campus communities and their future work environments. You see Savannah had her portfolio in hand 👏🏾 It was a pleasure to meet you all with Tyra Metoyer. Wishing you continued, abundant success! To my network — when attending and planning conferences I strongly recommend advocating for students and learners to be in the room and ENGAGING with them. Our young people deserve our very best and deserve to be heard.

Day 1 of the STEM Innovation Forum brought a wealth of conversations with so many wonderful advocates of STEM. A huge shoutout to my co-presenters Hannah Vogler and Kelly Gaier Evans who helped lead a faciltated discussion on how STEM ecosystems are helping move the needle on STEM policies across the country. Our room full of attendees echo sentiments of the importance of leveraging partnerships within all sectors as well as the power of student voice in showing the impact of STEM programming. The conversations continued well into the night with Jeff Weld, Randolph Guschl, and Julie Newman. Tomorrow I will give a poster talk on Iowa’s collaborative approach to CS Ed Week and then I fly back to Iowa to take this knowledge and use it to impact our state. A huge shoutout to STEMconnector, Million Women Mentors and Battelle’s STEMx for all the behind the scenes work and support to bring this group together.
