🌟 Exciting Webinar Recap: “Leveraging Micro Credentialing to Advance Skills-Based Hiring” - If you would like to access the slide deck from the session, please feel free to reach out via DM. 🎁 We had an enlightening session focused on the potential of micro-credentialing to drive innovation and create inclusive pathways to STEM employment. As a former science educator, this topic is near and dear to my heart. I was delighted to be joined by a panel of experienced experts who shared invaluable insights on the subject. Panelists: Robert Bajor 🛰, CEO and Founder of Micro-credential Multiverse Sonia Malik, Global Program Director - IBM Skillsbuild Angela Consani, CEO and Co-Founder of Bioscience Core Skills Institute (BCSI) ❤️ Special thank you to Ted (Theodore) W. of STEMconnector for facilitating! Key Highlights: 🌟 Robert Bajor kicked off the discussion with an overview of the current state of the workforce and the rapid pace of skill changes. He emphasized that around 72% of executives identify talent gaps and labor market shortages as their top business challenges. Notably, the average job description lists about 10 skills, but 75-80% of these skills change every 2-3 years creating pipeline challenges for learners, institutions, and employers. 🌟 Sonia Malik from IBM shared the transformative IBM SkillsBuild program, which democratizes access to technology training and fosters career resilience. The program offers courses in exciting and in-demand areas like AI, sustainability, cybersecurity, and more, along with essential workplace skills. IBM partners with organizations like U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Goodwill Industries International for comprehensive program execution. 🌟 Angela Consani highlighted the value of skills-based credentials as complementary additions to traditional degrees or certifications in the workforce. She pointed out that many individuals possess valuable skills but lack formal qualifications. To bridge this gap, BCSI created digital badges to certify students' skills, which major biotech companies recognize. This approach has a proven track record of unlocking talent from non-traditional and previously invisible sources and emphasizes hiring based on skillsets over traditional degrees as the only proxy for job readiness. Other areas that were discussed: - The importance of behavior-based interviewing and the potential of micro-credentialing to enhance job skills and employment opportunities. - The growing policy imperative at the state level to eliminate degree requirements and accept skills-based credentials, with several states already adopting this approach. Thank you to our panelists for their expertise and to everyone who joined us for this insightful session. Together, we are advancing the future of skills-based hiring! 🚀 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gPq9FMvb ___________________________________________ 🏷️ #STEM #MicroCredentials #HigherEducation
