"Somebody is counting on you to get this right."
This quote from Francella Ochillo perfectly encapsulates the energy of this year's STEM Innovation Forum. Her clear dedication to serving the people of our nation had the entire room applauding, and I saw this theme throughout the conference.
Yes, this week was the STEM Innovation Forum in Las Vegas! What an absolute JOY it was to attend for the second time in a row - and this time, as the Founder and CEO of my own nonprofit! 💖
I can't begin to describe how happy I was to return to this community - as soon as I started seeing familiar faces, it was like 2023 in Denver all over again.
THANK YOU to the incredible team who made this event happen: Ted (Theodore) W., Heather Sherman, Renee Aaron, Kylie M., and so many more from STEMconnector, STEMx, Battelle, and Million Women Mentors .
Highlights:
🌟 Listening to Stephanie Rodriguez, Ph.D.'s talk about the STEMM Opportunity Alliance and imagining how my work with Speak Out Sisterhood will be able to fit in with their national framework for advancing equity in STEM.
👏 The reveal of the 2024 Girls and STEM Report from Ruling Our eXperiences, Inc. (ROX) by none other than Lisa Hinkelman, Ph.D. herself. I'm so excited to integrate these new findings into our Generation YES internship program.
🤗 Reuniting with SO many wonderful people - Colleen Bielitz, Ph.D., Jo Webber, Dr. Jillian Cadwell, Radhika Raghavan, Thomas D. Phillips IV, Maria Reyes Lisa Hinkelman, Ph.D. and more!
💬 The incredible talk from Julie Newman on how we need to revolutionize the way we TALK about STEM to young girls. It's not often an issue speaks to me so deeply that I find myself immersed in a forty-five minute conversation with the presenter and yet there we were. 😂 Thank you, Julie, for the amazing work you're doing!
💖 So many new connections!! It was fantastic to meet in person Brittany Brady, Ed.M., CAP®️, Katherine Mulholland, Martha McCabe, Tim Melton, Mark Muzzin, Roger Garcia , Ph.D., Jason Coleman, Janine Koeneke, and more.
And what could be more special than closing the evening reception by meeting the President of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas himself? Keith Whitfield's dedication to student success is truly inspiring to me as a undergraduate and as a social entrepreneur, and it was such an honor to share with him my work empowering college women through Speak Out Sisterhood.
All in all, I'm missing this conference and this community already, but my three pages of new ideas for my nonprofit is reminding me why, as much as I would love to, I can't live in a conference forever. 🥲
Thank you to the entire team for putting together another masterful event, and I'm looking forward to representing Speak Out Sisterhood and our work in social entrepreneurial experiential learning at next year's STEM Innovation Forum. 💖
