NYU Stern's Chapter of The Business Academy, a non-profit designed to build professional networks and foundations.

About us

The inaugural Stern Business Academy (SBA) is an organization for Black, Latinx, and Indigenous students, designed to build professional networks, relationships, and foundations for a successful career. We provide enriching and engaging education through our professional development and career exploration sessions. Our professional development sessions will teach students about foundational career resources such as resumes, interviews (behavioral, technical, and case), and LinkedIn profiles, through an informational presentation and engaging activity. Our career exploration sessions aim to expose our students to various career paths by connecting them with employees from top firms who explain what their firm is best known for and what their specific role looks like. With dedication and commitment, our resources will likely result in internships, full-time jobs, and professional success, which is our ultimate goal. Results aren’t a dream for the academy; they’re a reality. The SBA is revolutionizing the way minority students think about their past, present, and potential; for them, this is just the beginning. We are recruiting students who are eager to grow and desire to help others reach even greater success. Contact us at sternbusinessacademy@gmail.com to get involved!

NYU Business & Political Economy Sophomore | Exploring the Intersection of Commerce and Governance

I’m thrilled to share the incredible experience I had during my first internship at Kennedy Lewis Investment Management LLC! A huge thank you to Rachel Langer for organizing this remarkable opportunity. Over the past 9 weeks, I participated in a rotational program across Business Development, Opportunistic Credit, Accounting, and Generate Teams. A few highlights of my experience include: Generate Team: Collaborating closely with Langston Johnson, CFA and fellow interns, I gained excel skills and created generate models illustrating the financials of six major companies in the transportation sector, some of which include CH Robinson, Delta, and Spirit. Educational Workshops: I engaged in numerous teach-ins and workshops with KL team members, gaining valuable insights into various industries, career opportunities, and the rise of private credit. Focused Research Projects: I undertook additional projects aligned with my interests, such as researching a company within the Life Sciences sector and contributing to a presentation for the investment committee. All of these experiences, and more, were presented to the founders of KL, showcasing the depth and impact of our work. As I prepare for my next adventure studying abroad in London, I am deeply grateful to everyone at Kennedy Lewis and my fellow interns for making this experience unforgettable. A special thanks also to the Stern Business Academy for providing me with the opportunity to learn more about Kennedy Lewis; this experience wouldn’t have been possible without their invaluable guidance and support. Thank you all for an amazing summer!

Making the most of your first internship, especially as a first-gen professional in corporate America, can be daunting, especially in this hyper-competitive job market. It'll take more than a strong work ethic to get that full-time offer, and as a college student looking to get your foot in the door today, you'll have to build other skills, like networking, rapport building, and knowing how to present effectively. Which is why I was very excited to distill the lessons I've learned interning into a talk yesterday at NYU Stern School of Business on how to secure a return offer. Thank you so much Stern Business Academy for hosting me yesterday, and looking forward to doing more of these events in the future!

The Stern Business Academy is pleased to share that we hosted our 'Spring In Bloom' Night Market last week! The event, catered with delicious food and mocktails, allowed our organization to bring the NYU community together for a fun night of games, crafting projects, music and giveaways. It was also an opportunity for SBA to celebrate some NYU student entrepreneurs who were able to gain exposure for their various businesses. It was amazing to be able to connect with the community for some fun and creativity as the academic year comes to a close, while staying true to our organizational values. We look forward to our last few events for this semester and hosting more fun events like Spring In Bloom! Huge shoutout to our featured Entrepreneurs, Dezra Lloyd, Nicole Stallings and Mubarak Savage we are so glad to have you in the SBA network!

Last week marked an exciting milestone for The Stern Business Academy as we had the privilege of visiting the Morgan Stanley Office. Our cohort took a comprehensive tour of the Morgan Stanley Alternative Investments office, delving into the intricacies of this dynamic sector. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the panel discussion featuring seasoned professionals from the Alternative Investments Group. They generously shared invaluable insights into their career trajectories, offering firsthand accounts of navigating transitions, sustaining growth, and achieving success within the field. It was very illuminating to hear about the firm's adaptive strategies and enduring commitment to excellence. In addition to the enriching panel, we were fortunate to engage in a recruiting session led by Risha Pujara, VP and Wealth Management Campus Program Manager. The session provided invaluable insights into the Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Analyst application process and offered strategic advice on how aspiring interns can distinguish themselves and thrive within the organization. Our visit culminated in a networking session, allowing us to connect personally with over 20 Morgan Stanley employees. These one-on-one interactions provided invaluable glimpses into the day-to-day experiences and diverse career paths within Morgan Stanley, further enriching our understanding of the firm's culture and ethos. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Morgan Stanley for graciously hosting us and for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry leaders. We also want to thank Nicole Ferrer, Adam Aidara and Amanda Saulean for being such gracious hosts!

Last week the Stern Business Academy held its first ever Fashion Business Panel. Our cohort hosted four professionals that are making waves in various realms of the fashion industry: Luxury (TOD'S and Oscar de la Renta), Corporate (Macy's), Sustainable (Yesaet), and Editorial (Document Journal). The panel, moderated by our capable E-Board Member Alejandra, was very informative and offered several valuable insights to our group of diverse interests. Thank you to Stacie Henderson, Mimi Girma, Allison Davis and Ronald Burton III for spending your evening with us and sharing so many gems- we're so glad to have you in the SBA network!

The Midterm Reset Evening served as a moment for our community to flex its creative muscles towards a meaningful cause. Many attendees designed thoughtful cards for senior citizens to support Cards for Care. We look forward to more opportunities for our organization to give back!
