Guy Wallace, Senior Manager SAP Strategies, celebrates 45 years with STIHL, Inc. this year. "I began my journey with STIHL Inc. as a temporary hire during a college vacation. STIHL Inc. converted 84,000 square feet of warehouse space to battery tool manufacturing in 2023. By the end of 2023, battery unit production capacity at the Virginia Beach facility had increased by more than 150 percent year-over-year. Meet John Baker, Assembly Lead who celebrates 40 years with STIHL, Inc. in Virginia Beach this year! John’s best moments have been meeting, working with, and learning from all of his colleagues here at STIHL, Inc. and seeing the company evolve over the years. “The differences I have seen from an assembly stand-point are huge - especially all of the automation and improvements that has been added to the lines and packing; It has been great to see and be a part of these changes!”

Today, we recognize STIHL Inc.'s longest standing employee, Mary King. “There are countless memorable moments from my time at STIHL Incorporated, but what stands out most is the engagement we received from the Stihl family. During their visits, they always made a point to walk through the office areas and greet all the employees, creating a cherished connection. The Stihl family has always shown genuine care for the well-being of each employee, which is a truly admirable quality,” said Mary King, supervisor of export sales. 

Meet Wayne Lemmond, STIHL Inc. employee of 45 years & Technical Documentation Specialist for our Technical Services department. You can frequently see Wayne sharing his knowledge of our production facilities & campus as a lead tour guide for visitors and guests here in Virginia Beach. “I started here as a 17-year-old high school student in 1978, just looking for a summer job. Over the years, I’ve seen this place grow and change constantly. Every time we thought we had some breathing room, more assembly lines were added. When I was asked to be a tour guide fifteen years ago, I was excited to share what I knew about the plant with visitors. As the campus keeps evolving, I keep learning and adding new information to my tours. Seeing visitors’ amazement when they realize how much goes on here is incredibly rewarding. I love sharing our story, and with everything happening, the tours just keep getting longer.”

50 years of excellence in America.  Half a century ago, in a rented 20,000-square-foot facility, STIHL Inc. opened its doors with 50 employees assembling one model of chainsaw. Today, with over 2,700 employees nationwide, STIHL Inc. manufactures millions of powerheads a year on the sprawling 150-acre Virginia Beach campus.  To commemorate this significant milestone, in the coming weeks we will be highlighting a few dedicated employees who have made decades-long contributions to the organization. 

Through 2025, STIHL Inc. will have invested over $60 million towards battery manufacturing.
