“To be honest” was the phrase Mary Rose Fernandez and JohnEric Advento heard most from the students of American International School of Bucharest when listening to their thoughts about the Director of Teaching and Learning search that Strategenius is conducting. We were so grateful to have visited Romania and we learned so much from this creative, courageous and compassionate learning community. From the children through to the adults, community members were honest about the need for this inaugural role to support connection, alignment, and learning for all. Our deep thanks to School Director, Rachel Caldwell for hosting us on AISB’s beautiful, purpose-built campus. Much gratitude, as well, to the Search Committee, the Senior Leadership Team, Learning Leadership, faculty, staff, parents, and students who all took time to spend with us. With over 60 different nationalities represented in the student body and bountiful resources to deliver a world-class education, there is so much to be celebrated in this caring, student-centered, and joyful school community. What a fantastic day Ara Brown, Ed.D. Brown and Nancy Nanka-Bruce had visiting Charles Armstrong School for Strategenius' CFOO search! We learned so much from this inspiring community. From students through to adults, everyone spoke of the joy, the positive energy, and the kindness that permeates throughout the campus. Our deepest thanks to Elissa Whorl for hosting us; to the teachers, the business office team, and the senior leadership team who all took time from their day to spend with us; and to the newly-elected student council who moved us so deeply by sharing stories of how much Armstrong has changed their lives, provided them with a sense of belonging, and made them feel included, welcomed, and safe. NEW Leadership Opportunity *Priority Application Deadline of October 11, 2024* Westerly School of Long Beach, a K-8 mixed gender independent school, is seeking an energetic, motivated, and results-driven self-starter to join the team as Director of Development. Established in 1993, Westerly formed in response to the Long Beach community's desire for a unique educational option distinct from both the public school system and religiously-affiliated institutions. This new educational choice for families was created with a vision to provide a well-rounded education, featuring a low student-to-teacher ratio and dedicated specialists in various fields. Celebrating its 30th year, Westerly is a thriving community serving 176 students and with almost 40 full-time faculty and staff. Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development collaborates with the entire leadership team including the Assistant Head of School, Director of Finance and Facilities, and the Director of Admissions. The Director is responsible for all aspects of fundraising, including the Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Special Events, and Grants. This job is accomplished through the individual’s own direct efforts as well as partnering with the Board-led Advancement Committee, and effectively leveraging the skills and volunteer contributions of Westerly parents, alumni, board members, and staff. The new Director will come to Westerly ready to take action, but also willing to take the time to learn the school, the community, and the current and future development needs. With a bent for strategic thinking and data-driven analysis, the Director of Development will map out a vision for Westerly’s growth and development practice. The Position The Director of Development is a full-time, 12-month, key member of the leadership team at Westerly and will have a significant impact on the financial well-being and future of the school. This role offers an opportunity to build a nascent development practice into a stable and fruitful cornerstone of the school. The Director will see and understand the significant possibilities in this position and will use creativity, keen analytics, sound judgment, and heart to strengthen and evolve the role of development at Westerly. In partnership with the Head of School and the Board, the Director will create a plan for development, stewardship, and the establishment of an endowment that takes into account the mission of the school and the community it serves. The Director will jump into the role and the community with both feet, putting strategy into action to deliver on several crucial building blocks to secure Westerly’s future.
