In Quotes: It’s never too early to teach children about voting “In the world of #earlychildhoodeducation, it’s crucial for us to recognize the impact that experiences have on young children’s understanding of concepts and values. Voting is an essential part of our society and teaching children about the process and its significance can help shape their future as responsible and engaged citizens." ~ Paula Andrea Echeverri Durango Read more in our #EyeOnEarlyChildhood blog: https://lnkd.in/e8ubMCpQ

Thursday, September 12 | Dr. Jayne Singer, Ph.D. IECMH-E®, Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Clinical Mentor, Past President, MassAIMH, Clinical Psychologist, Director of Developmental and Relational Health, Director of Clinical Training, Brazelton Touchpoints Center, Division of Developmental Medicine, Assistant Professor Pediatrics and Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, Boston Children's Hospital, will share more about Brazelton Touchpoints Center’s professional development course in “Addressing Behaviors that Challenge.” When it comes to responding to children’s behaviors that challenge us, “one size does not fit all.” This course explores how to use a developmentally-embedded and compassionate relationship-based care approach to understand and respond to child behaviors that adults and the children themselves find challenging. Participants learn to respond to children's behavior by deeply reflecting upon their own reactions to children's behavior, regulating their own emotional reactions in order to co-regulate with children, and strengths-based family engagement to mutually understand reasons for the children's behavior that can stem from both the process of development as well as the amplified effects of trauma and other stressors. Participants are supported in a reflective process that involves self-reflection upon explicit and implicit biases towards children and families as we examine the inequities present in preschool-expulsion rates, for example. Participants practice strategies to respond to a child's behavior that support child, family, and provider well-being and partnership, and child learning and development, through strengths-based relationships with the child and within their family. Integrated throughout the course is a series of self-paced scenarios in which participants can practice engaging with both children and families to respond to behaviors that challenge with relationship-based care.
