Yet, consulting partners will say they can do everything. And then deliver mediocrity. The reality is that technology is only capable of so many things. So, it’s essential to understand a data initiative's highest priorities. That way, the delivery team will know exactly what to focus on. This sounds obvious, but it gets missed because, as technologists, we always think we know best. I’ve seen other teams spin on features for days (even weeks!) that ultimately added very little value. Which then caused project delays. If you don’t know what is top-of-mind for your project sponsor, there’s a good chance you are not aligned. Therefore, it’s imperative to have open communication with your project leaders to get aligned and continue to set expectations throughout the engagement.
