" I believe that relationships are the foundation of good teaching, from early childhood through graduate school." -Judy Paulick

“The goal is to create teachers who stay in the classroom and who also become teacher-leaders in their schools and their school districts. I want them to stay in love with teaching and their students and feel great, confident, skilled and like there’s room for professional growth, even if they stay in teaching for 20 or 30 years.” https://ow.ly/3eca50Tzfl5

Check out this little comedian. 🥸 Not long ago I fielded a question about how to interpret a newborn’s smiles and laughter - noting that (at three days old) these behaviors were probably more reflexive than intentional. In doing so, I also made a promise: that meaningful smiles and laughter would be just around the corner. And that once they arrive you really couldn’t miss them. Which brings us to this little joker. You only get a quick glimpse of the game he’s playing with his grandfather, but what you’re watching is the pair using rapid changes in their facial expressions to make one another laugh. And boy, is it effective! Watch as our hero goes from delighted to completely straight faced at the drop of a hat. His serious face makes grandpa laugh and this brings out some of the biggest baby grins you’ll ever see. It’s clear that this little guy is engaging in humor on purpose - and takes real pleasure in making his family laugh. He’s just the right age as well. At about 9 months, babies begin developing “theory of mind” - or the ability to begin envisioning a situation from the viewpoint of another. I’d say he has a pretty good sense of what will make his grandpa guffaw. Wouldn’t you agree? Literacy learning begins early. Check out this sweet little one as she “reads” a board book independently in her crib. Her language is not yet conventional. But consider all the knowledge she’s putting on display. First, she knows that books contain meaning and that they can be read aloud - just like her parents do with her. She’s got an understanding (even if her book is upside down) that as stories progress one turns the pages from left to right. And, interestingly, she may even recognize that books catering to her age range often include simple, repetitive text. (Listen as she vocalizes a similar pattern over and over.) Is she interacting with the text itself? Not yet. And that’s just fine. But at well under a year of age, she’s already absorbed an impressive amount about books and how they work. Read with your baby every day. You’ll be amazed by the benefits. This literate little one was shared to IG by last1knights. #earlychildhood #earlyyears #eyfs #parenting
