STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture & Engineering was selected to receive the International Campaign for Tibet’s Rowell Fund for Tibet grant to support documentation, research and preservation of Zanskar’s Buddhist monasteries and nunneries. This will allow us to obtain radiocarbon dating of wood samples from these monasteries and nunneries that were built around 1,000 years ago. Determining the exact ages of these structures will help us better understand the history of these important Buddhist sites. https://lnkd.in/ecBFVcZ7

About us
STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture and Engineering is a New York City-based multidisciplinary design firm led by its founding principal Tenzin Nyandak, PE, AIA. We work collaboratively with public agencies, cultural institutions, entrepreneurs, developers, and private clients in New York City and around the world to create places that are deeply engaged with social, cultural, environmental and community concerns. We believe that architecture at its core is a careful and thoughtful integration of art and science of buildings. We constantly strive to foster open and honest communication between all members of a project team — owners, end users, government agencies, builders, architects, engineers, and other consultants. info@nyandak.com

STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture & Engineering reposted this
What a productive year it's been at STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture & Engineering! From design work to estimations, site supervision to material sourcing - 2024 has been packed with diverse projects and valuable experiences. Each day brought something new to learn, whether in client meetings or on construction sites. Among our key projects this year was the pro bono design work for TCV School. It's amazing how life comes full circle - their motto "Come to Learn, Go to Serve" resonates differently now as a professional contributing to the institution's development through architectural design. Additionally, our research work expands into meaningful territories - from studying the monasteries of Zanskar focused on cultural preservation to developing low-cost seismic-resilient building solutions for safer communities. Each project this year has added valuable experience to my professional journey. Grateful to Studio Nyandak for providing these opportunities to create meaningful impact through design. There's something deeply satisfying about doing work that matters. Looking forward to what 2025 has in store!

STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture & Engineering and Prof. Karl Ryavec were recently awarded a research grant by the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art to obtain, analyze and present declassified spy plane images dating back to the late 1950s. This grant is in support of our ongoing research project, Tibet from Above, which sheds light on the profound changes to Buddhist monasteries in Tibet during the Chinese occupation and the Cultural Revolution. Studio Nyandak is designing a new science lab for the Upper Tibetan Children's Village (TCV) school in Dharamshala, India. We designed a multi-purpose outdoor courtyard with locally sourced stone laid in the form of rivers originating from Tibet. The roof of the building is inspired by the Dhauladhar mountain range in the backdrop, and the design of the building takes cues from vernacular Tibetan architecture. This is one of many probono projects we are working on for the exiled Tibetan community in India. STUDIO NYANDAK - Architecture & Engineering www.nyandak.com
