Northeastern University’s Ryder Hall features a new canopy marking the entrance from the main campus oval into the College of Arts, Media and Design. The folded and painted steel plane extends inside the building, guiding students through interactive media. The Mattahunt Community Center has served the Mattapan community since 1974 and connects to the Mattahunt Elementary School through a pedestrian bridge. As part of the renovation, new exterior glazing introduces daylight into the lobby and creates an inviting, welcoming, and accessible entrance into the building. The colorful metal panels that represent the community enliven the exterior of the elementary school and extend into the community center lobby. Built in the 1980s, three Bentley University Falcone Residence halls house third- and fourth-year students. Our recent project focused on renovating existing suites and creating universally accessible suites. Due to the lack of natural daylight, we designed a wood enclosure with vibrant colors and new lighting. A thickened wall contains a series of niches with booths, seating, and individual study areas. On the other side of the corridor, a larger group lounge and study space encourage collaboration. #studioenee #universityarchitecture #studentcentereddesign #learningspace

Our team was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for @ibaboston this week. This new Community Arts Center (known as La CASA) in Boston’s South End will house IBA’s bilingual youth development, financial empowerment, resident services, and arts programs, which are offered to IBA residents and South End community members. La CASA will serve as the hub for Latinx arts and activism in New England. The design collaboration led by Latinx and women architects, reflects a deep respect for IBA's mission and vision: one of empowering individuals and families to improve their lives and achieve socio-economic mobility through high-quality affordable housing, education, financial and resident empowerment and arts programs. The sustainable, modern design respects the historic context and includes a terra cotta and glass rainscreen facade with a roof deck overlooking O’Day Park.  Congratulations to the team on this milestone! Today we marked a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of La CASA: The Center for Arts, Self-determination, and Activism. This $33 million dollar project will establish New England’s largest Latinx cultural hub in Boston’s Historic South End, creating a permanent venue for the expression of Latinx art and stories and a place for people to realize their full potential through housing, education, economic advancement and youth development. We are excited to share this development as it signifies both a new chapter in IBA's rich history, and a glimpse into the incredible future of our organization. This contemplative site sits in the North Springs Improvement District’s nature preserve. Cradled by a grove of trees that create a sense of privacy for the memorial and visual separation from the homes on the other side of the water, the sense of enclosure balances moments of unobstructed views of the nature preserve’s canal, which reflects the sky and provides beauty to the memorial. The path winds its way to the memorial precinct and brings visitors through two large, planted areas of low native plants, which act as a land bridge that marks the start of the arrival to the memorial.     The petals occur in two heights; the 3 taller petals located towards the center of the bouquet represent the adult victims, and the 14 petals representing the students will surround them. The stem of each petal is engraved with the name of each victim and a narrative developed by each family about the victim and who they could have become. This is also where flowers and offerings may be placed in remembrance and in honor of the victims.    The Parkland 17 Memorial honors the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018.    Designed for a design competition in collaboration with Klopfer Martin Design Group.

This week we celebrated the ribbon-cutting and opening of the Mattahunt Community Center in Mattapan! Our team was honored to be joined by Mayor Michelle Wu and other officials for this joyous event. The Community Center (34,000 SF) is connected to the Mattahunt Elementary School and includes a new glass entrance and windows, as well as a renovated lobby, gym, pool, locker rooms, teen room, and multi-purpose room for community gatherings, sports, and the arts.
