The questions (sigh……) 1. Isn’t this inclusion stuff going a little too far?” 2. These brands don’t really care, they just want to make money” 3. I don’t want my five year old to be forced to think about race” The answers (duh!) “1. No, it isn’t. Products find market fit, or they don’t. Emotional opinions grounded in nostalgic supremacy are at odds with fiduciary duties, period. 2. “So?” Last I checked caring about making money was kinda the point… 3. That’s odd ,because your child is often doing the forcing. Example - I never asked a white child if their skin tasted like vanilla, but, in the spirit of otherizing that is nurture not nature, more than a few asked me! (If being asked what your skin tastes like happened to you as a kid please drop a 🙋🏾♀️🙋♂️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽in the comments so folks know I’m not exaggerating) Crayola - keep the great work coming and ignore the haters. You’re also warmly welcomed to hit us with some #bts action. Please drop a tag if you’re involved so We can celebrate and learn from you! If it seems I’m just an tad passionate 😅 - #responsiblemarketing the book goes a lot deeper into how commercializing #socialimpact in #brandrelevant ways that transcend the performative actually has #netpositive impact. Transcending the performative is the intimidating part, but I hope you’ll agree after reading my book - it doesn’t have to be!! What’s your fave example along the lines of what our pals at Crayola have done here? TELFAR is another that gets a lot of shine in the book. Dove, E.L.F. BEAUTY, ChatBlackGPT™, OCOA - Curly Hair Care, Success in Black….so many success stories - including industries you may not be expecting like big law, education, publishing, and a favorite of mine you probably aren’t aware of community building and real estate! (Call me old fashioned but when my clients want privacy, that is what they get 😇 after all I do so much in public, referrals in private work just fine for me!)
