Happy Indigenous Peoples day! Today is a day of honoring and celebrating the history and culture of Native Indigenous Peoples in the United States and around the world. Pictured is Tolay Lake - now a part of the Tolay Lake Regional Park - which was a known gathering point for local tribes, and formerly habited by Coastal Miwok and Pomo tribes. The lake is believed to have healing properties, and is currently undergoing ecological restoration. Summit recognizes that we currently reside on Southern Pomo, Kashaia Pomo, and Coast Miwok lands. Looking for a way to celebrate? Have you ever wondered how you can make your business run a little greener? It's simpler than you think! Here are just a few ways that the Summit team helps take care of the planet while we're at the office: 1. We have compost bins in the kitchen and our restrooms. Did you know that most paper towels are compostable? 2. Summit uses real dishware to cut back on waste. We even have a dishwasher, both convenient, and helps reduce water usage! We have also recently converted to using reusable tupperware as opposed to plastic bags for any items from our office events that need to be stored. 3. We just recently installed an EV charger at our office to support our staff who drive electric vehicles and to prepare to transition our own fleet to electric/hybrid vehicles. 4. We encourage our team to do all of their markups, drawings, billing, etc. electronically to cut back on paper usage. We currently have a little office competition going to see which side of the office can cut back on the most printing to meet our goal of reducing paper prints/copies by 10% this year! As a proud California Green Business, we're always looking for ways to improve our business practices and leave the planet a better place than we found it. Do you have more suggestions of what else we could be doing around the office? Let us know below!
