Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. has brought the classic video game to the popular Roblox gaming platform with help from developer Supersocial Inc. in order to connect with younger audiences. "This endeavour is about celebrating the ubiquity and accessibility of PAC-MAN to champion connections across generations. The experience serves as a conduit for parents, who often played PAC-MAN in arcades, to join their families in the immersive world of Roblox.     In February 2022, I was interviewed for Citi's 9th Annual Digital Money Symposium (thanks, Ronit Ghose, for having me!) and made the following statement about the metaverse: "In [Yon Raz-Fridman]’s view, [the metaverse] could be worth $10 trillion and accessed by 100 billion virtual avatars…" After reflecting on the matter more, I've put together a detailed perspective on the driving forces behind the metaverse's impending expansion and wrote a long letter to bolster my prediction made over two years ago. At the heart of my argument lies the notion of multifaceted identities: the idea that individuals will embrace a multitude of avatars and personas in the metaverse. These varied and dynamic identities promise to draw an eclectic mix of users and creators, playing a pivotal role in the exponential growth of a boundless virtual universe. As a parent with a three-year-old daughter, I am deeply invested in ensuring that the next iteration of the Internet is a safe and enriching space for her and her generation.     As platforms such as Fortnite and Roblox become full-service platforms for digital life, the music industry is moving beyond virtual concerts. These days, musicians are integrating more deeply into virtual worlds to promote their album releases and bring in new fans. Music has been a key element of the #metaverse from the start. In 2020, Travis Scott’s virtual concert inside #Fortnite was many of its participants’ first introduction to the metaverse concept. But although Scott’s concert reportedly grossed roughly $20 million through in-game item sales, it was a one-off event that was not tied to an album release or marketing campaign.     We're delighted to see our founder and CEO, Yonatan Raz-Fridman, quoted in Alexander Lee's piece, with a mention of the latest innovation from Supersocial - The Rolling Stones activation in Beat Galaxy, our music world on #Roblox built in partnership with Universal Music Group. “Instead of the labels and the artists spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to build a one-off activation, they are now able to come into ‘Beat Galaxy’ and activate with artists inside, with a virtual music shop, a track runner [mini game] and integration of the music into the world,” said Yonatan Raz-Fridman, CEO of Roblox studio Supersocial, which designed and built the experience. Finding a meaningful way to integrate music into metaverse platforms is still in its early stages, and we're excited about the possibilities.
