We're all pretty familiar with the term "fast fashion", but what about "fast furniture"? In an article for Fast Company, Adele Peters delves into the rise of low-cost furniture, and its obvious sustainability implications. In the article, Supply Trace Co-Founder Shawn Bhimani shares his thoughts & asks some important questions about how such low prices might be possible: “When we see a price like [a $20 sofa], it’s a red flag that maybe there’s some part of the supply chain for that product where we need to do further investigation... Is it the material that is basically rock-bottom price and is that potentially because it’s coming from a place where that material can’t be sold anywhere else because of the risk of forced labor?” Read the article in full, here: https://lnkd.in/ejgSteJd #SupplyChainManagement #SupplyChainTransparency #EthicalSourcing #Compliance #ForcedLabor #RiskManagement #SupplyChain
About us
Supply Trace is an accessible, open platform that maps potential risks in global supply chains to enable both supply chain due diligence and more effective accountability. The tool combines expert desk-based risk investigations with machine learning / AI-powered mapping of customs records and other relevant supply chain data to map relationships deep into supply chains, beyond tier 1. Supply Trace exists to incentivise and enable businesses, and other stakeholders, to mitigate and provide remedy for adverse human rights and environmental impacts in global supply chains. It does this by highlighting potential risks in specific production locations and supply chains from evidence curated by our research. It presents this information in a granular way so that decision makers can take action. Launched in March 2024, in its pilot phase Supply Trace focuses on the apparel sector and links between forced labor in the Uyghur Region of China and shipments to the U.S. In the future, Supply Trace will progressively expand to other industries, affected regions, and categories of risk, with a specific focus on just transitions. Supply Trace is an open access platform, available for anyone to search who has an interest in better understanding supply chain conditions, including companies, government, trade experts, civil society, human rights defenders, lawyers, auditors, advocates, journalists, researchers and more. Supply Trace is currently a research project incubated at Northeastern University.

🙏 As we work behind the scenes on lots of exciting expansion plans for Supply Trace, we wanted to take a moment to thank our funders whose support makes this work possible. ✨ We are grateful to have received an additional, multi-year cycle of funding from Laudes Foundation. Look out for more news on those developments coming soon! 🧑💻 In addition to this funding, we are delighted to have received a grant from The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation to scale and grow our product, with a particular focus on strengthening our technical expertise.
