SHCLA had a great discussion with East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) on emerging affordable housing models for people with disabilities. Thanks to our fellow panelists, Fatimah M. Aure, MPP from The Kelsey and Michai Freeman from the Center for Independent Living, Inc., Berkeley for their insightful contributions. During EBHO's Lunch and Learn series, Executive Director Teslim Ikharo (we/us) explored tangible ways for developers and service providers to better serve this often underserved community. The Supportive Housing Community Land Alliance (SHCLA) is creating permanently affordable, sustainable housing outcomes for Alameda County residents living with serious mental illness (SMI). Our independent research indicates that over the last three years, we lost roughly 1600 beds serving residents with SMI. This year-end, make a donation to help us increase our capacity to preserve and produce supportive housing properties—it’s time to develop enduring solutions. Invest today and help SHCLA build a brighter and healthier future for all in our community! Donate now at https://lnkd.in/gUuw_2Ub #HousingIsHealthcare

Building community power involves creating intersections. Last week, Supportive Housing Community Land Alliance hosted candidates running for Alameda County Board of Supervisors at Port Labs in Oakland to discuss supportive housing strategies. Taylor Nanz curated a unique showcase of creatives and local businesses. Thank you Teslim Ikharo (we/us), John J. Bauters, and Nikki Fortunato Bas.

Last Wednesday, I had the opportunity of collaborating with Supportive Housing Community Land Alliance (SHCLA) to ideate and produce "Community Conversation for the Culture" at Port Labs, as part of #OaklandStyleWeek — because community wellness is always in style. Ever been to a candidate forum that started with a guided breath meditation? It was a unique and grounding somatic experience, expertly led by Lissette de la Rosa, MPA, SHRM-CP, and a crowd favorite. This set the tone for an evening of deep, impactful connections. SHCLA's Executive Director, Teslim Ikharo (we/us), facilitated a powerful conversation with Oakland City Council members Nikki Fortunato Bas and John J. Bauters on the critical intersection of mental health and supportive housing initiatives. In addition to the discussion, we curated an enriching lineup, including: - Conversation cards to encourage meaningful interactions among attendees. - A showcase of local, underrepresented small businesses and creatives, featuring delicious food, an art display, and a lively espresso martini/latte pop-up bar. - Hygiene and feminine care kits for attendees to take and share with community members in need. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our incredible community partners for making this thoughtful evening possible.
