Thanks to Gary Noakes, reporting for TTG Media, sharing some encouraging news for #sustainabletourism in a new survey ahead of the General Election. More than 70% of adults believe the next UK government should focus on sustainable travel initiatives, including collaborations with other nations to help them achieve greater sustainability. A poll conducted by InsureandGo UK, surveying 2,099 adults, revealed that 73% support government efforts to promote sustainable travel, with 32% advocating for partnerships with other countries to advance 'green tourism'. The 25-34 year age group showed particular interest in this issue, with 88% indicating that the UK should prioritise sustainable travel. The survey also found that 80% of respondents acknowledged that recent changes in global weather patterns have influenced their travel plans. Among those who have directly experienced the effects of climate change while on holiday abroad, 91% reported that their experiences with extreme weather have impacted their holiday choices. InsureandGo’s findings indicate that 30% of respondents want the new government to provide tax incentives for airlines to invest in fuel-efficient aircraft and carbon offset programmes. An equal proportion of respondents called for a public awareness campaign to promote eco-friendly travel options and highlight the environmental impact of travel choices. More than one in four respondents (27%) want the next government to collaborate with other countries to establish sustainable travel certifications, while 24% want politicians to promote and incentivise eco-friendly hotels and resorts abroad. Additionally, 22% of respondents called for carbon offset programmes to mitigate travel-related emissions, with the same proportion wanting the government to subsidise "sustainable" airlines. Garry Nelson, InsureandGo’s head of corporate affairs, commented: "As the various general election manifestos emerge, climate change and the environment are mentioned domestically in terms of energy-efficient homes, planting trees, and business taxes, but there is very little mention from any party about overseas travel. "The message from our latest survey is clear. While summer holidays abroad are important to most British households, many people are mindful of doing it responsibly and would like to see the next government set an example. "If the government makes sustainable travel a bigger priority, then people will follow suit, and together we can all support a plan that invests in the future of the travel sector while also protecting the environment." Thanks for making our day with this report! Melissa Tilling, Editor https://lnkd.in/ecYxYNyE Note. you may need to sign up to TTG read the article.
