Is marketing getting a boost or taking a hit during these uncertain economic times? It’s a bit of both. On one side, more CMOs are being hired. By the end of August this year, 207 global CMOs were announced, compared with last year’s 116 at the same time. But here’s the flip side: top-level marketing job postings have dropped. After cutting nearly 28,000 jobs since 2022, Amazon’s hiring has surged over the past few months. Job listings have risen by 88% in the last year, and marketing roles in the U.S. have nearly tripled. And the paychecks are bigger. The median salary for Amazon positions in the U.S. has jumped from $110.7K a year ago to $170.6K now, with the biggest leap happening in June.
