📢 Fall Advisory Panel Meeting and Student Research Showcase Highlight Growing Participation and Innovation at CIR 📢 The second annual Student Research Showcase was held at the Center for Infrastructure Renewal (CIR) Advisory Panel meeting on Friday, September 27, 2024. This year, participation saw a significant increase, with 40 students presenting 41 posters, compared to last year’s 26 students and 28 posters. Students from various departments came together to share their research with CIR Advisory Panel (CAP) members, professors, fellow students, and TEES/TTI leadership. It was inspiring to see the impressive research being conducted within the CIR across so many different fields of study. Greg Baker, CAP Chair, remarked, “The research showcase highlighted the Center’s ongoing research on topics relevant to current societal challenges. It was a fantastic opportunity for each student to present their work and explain how they are contributing to solving infrastructure problems. The research is impressive, and Advisory Panel members were invigorated by the level of dedication to the work.” Following the Student Research Showcase, the bi-annual CIR Advisory Panel meeting took place. CIR Director Anand Puppala and Deputy Director Edith Arambula-Mercado briefed members on the current state of the CIR research, student outreach and other major initiatives. This CAP meeting also provides an opportunity for Advisory Panel Members to discuss and brainstorm ways to integrate CIR PIs and students and their ongoing research into real-world applications, often through partnerships with their companies for testing or internship opportunities... Lower Cost | Less Time | Longer Life
About us
Highways aren’t forever. The 197,865 lane-miles of highway in Texas will eventually need to be replaced. Our economic viability is dependent on finding effective, affordable solutions to our infrastructure challenges. That’s where we come in. The research conducted at the CIR produces solutions that benefit society over the long haul. Improving the safety, security, longevity and the resilience of Texas’ transportation network is a cornerstone of our work. In ways large and small, we are making our roads, railways, airports, water systems and electric grid better every day. Just as a hospital without physicians is little more than an expensive collection of specialized equipment, the state-of-the-art facilities at the CIR rely on the world-class engineers, scientists, researchers and students who work there. Three simple goals guide their research: LOWER cost LESS time LONGER life

📢 CIR Director Dr. Anand Puppala Awarded 2024 ASCE J. James R. Croes Medal 📢 "The J. James R. Croes Medal, established by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in 1912, honors exceptional contributions to engineering research. Named after John James Robertson Croes, a former ASCE president, this prestigious award is given annually to authors of papers published in ASCE journals that exhibit practical value and significant impact on engineering practice. The medal is awarded to the authors of one of the top two papers selected from approximately 7,000 papers published each year in 35 ASCE technical journals and numerous conference proceedings. This year, the award was bestowed upon Dr. Anand Puppala and his research team — Santiago Caballero Olmedo, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE; Tejo Bheemasetti, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE; and Sayantan Chakraborty, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE — for their research paper “Geotechnical Visualization and Three-Dimensional Geostatistics Modeling of Highly Variable Soils of a Hydraulic Fill Dam,” published in the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering in September 2022. Dr. Caballero, Dr. Bheemasetti, and Dr. Chakraborty were former doctoral students under the supervision of Dr. Puppala. They are now working in esteemed academic institutions and industries in the USA and India..."
