The year was 1949. It was a Wednesday. The 31st of August when the Secretary of Defense announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. A unified day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forced under one department – the Department of Defense. Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May. We are two days late but please join us as we pay tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces – individuals who are in service of their country all over the world.

TAYLORS BEC CAFETERIA TEAM receives wall-size THANK YOU from Ambassador Romanowski for Taylors’ life support services to the largest diplomatic mission in the world. In October 2023, in response to increased security threats against US personnel and soaring regional tensions, the Department of State (DoS) ordered a departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and family members from U.S. Embassy Baghdad. The U.S. Consulate General Erbil also issued travel warnings to US citizens warning them not to travel to the Middle East. Since 2010, Taylors has been a part of the story in Iraq serving Amentum and the Department of State at various sites and in various capacities.  Recently, U.S. Ambassador Alina Romanowski, an American career diplomat who has served as Ambassador in Iraq since 2022 and in Kuwait 2020-2022, orchestrated a formal thank you to our US Baghdad Embassy Compound (BEC) Cafeteria team for going above and beyond the call of duty during this recent turn of events.  The BEC, on 104 acres, is the largest embassy in the world; it is nearly as large as Vatican City. We serve at the intersection of one of the most unique and diverse populations assembled. Every day, our committed team rises to the challenge of making safe, comfortable and tantalizing meals that appeal to our broad guest spectrum while enduring limited resources of skilled labor, equipment, storage, and logistical challenges in a nation in constant flux.  To date, the BEC Cafeteria has realized over 862,000 comments resulting in over a 99% satisfaction rating! That is a feat only accomplished with around-the-clock dedication and exemplary service by our employees. The Taylors BEC team were honored with a large, personal THANK YOU banner, warm words and local confectionary gift boxes.

TAYLORS’ PRESIDENT & CEO TARIK MASRI GUEST SPEAKER at ISOA EUROPE INDUSTRY DAYS IN GERMANY The International Stability Operations Association (ISOA) will host its first-ever Europe Industry Days on April 8-11, 2024 in Kaiserslautern, Germany. During the three-day event, representatives from over a dozen contracting entities from the U.S. Department of Defense, GSA and other government agencies will present their upcoming requirements to the private sector and provide briefs on how to do business with the U.S. Government. In addition, panel discussions with industry representatives will further elucidate opportunities and challenges associated with U.S. government contracting in Europe. The partnership between the U.S. Department of Defense and the private sector, particularly in the context of supporting U.S. security interests in Europe, is paramount. Now more than ever, the private sector will play a critical role in augmenting the U.S. military in supporting U.S. security and national interests. The multiple challenges currently facing the U.S. and its allies in Europe demand even closer cooperation between the U.S. Government and industry to provide better solutions and bring innovative ideas. Growing the vendor base, improving system knowledge, and familiarizing vendors with upcoming needs will facilitate cooperation between industry and government.
