This week, we held our quarterly home office meeting in Bozeman, MT. Our home office exists for one reason, and one reason alone: to provide our on-site leadership teams -- the crux of our business -- with the tools and resources they need to be successful. Where our on-site leaders are the business' front-line, the home office sits further behind the scenes -- monitoring, evaluating, and creating opportunities for the on-site teams to shine. Working remotely, as those of us in the home office do, can feel lonely -- most of our work is handled from behind the screen of a computer or over calls -- which is why getting together in person, even if just a few times a year, is so crucial to our success and well being. This week again proved the value of time spent in person. I am beyond grateful (and often shocked) that I get to spend my days working with such a talented crew -- true experts and professionals in their domains -- who choose (and yes, they could work most anywhere else) to work with me and Cody at Team Outsider. Here is our Feedback Framework at Team Outsider. It’s simple, but uniquely us. I drew this out on the back of my son’s Kindergarten Homework packet and sent it to Josh Weissenstein 🌳 for his thoughts. A few weeks later we introduced it to our team. While this is a very small and low risk example of creativity, it illustrates the space we have for ideation and the supportive environment where our ideas are nurtured. I joined Team Outsider because I consider myself a builder. Sure, Josh and Cody Sauer started the organization, but I wake up every day excited to build the organization. Whether it’s people strategy or business partnership or creating a framework like this for how we communicate with our team, there is freedom to innovate, space to fail, and tons of room to grow. Here’s to more ideas that get written on scraps of paper and to the leaders that say, “Go for it.”
