There is no broad consensus that the experience of looking for tech work in this current period is objectively different from the past. But the formal and anecdotal evidence seem to be suggesting a shift. We are now in a post-pandemic, pre-election, high-interest-rate, layoff heavy, AI driven environment; and tech professionals are noticing the lack of enthusiasm from companies hiring. Traditional job hunting methods, like relying on LinkedIn, seem less effective as remote work has flooded the market, making it harder to stand out in a sea of global applicants. Read on to see one engineer’s struggle with the new post-pandemic hiring practices. https://lnkd.in/ezAGxg_8

Delaware ranks No. 4 in the nation for internet speed. About 63% of Delaware residents now have access to internet speeds that exceed the FCC’s minimum standard. Anthony (Roddy) Flynn, Jr., executive director of the Delaware Broadband Office, is trying to boost that number, aiming for 100% access by 2030. Here’s how he plans to do it: https://lnkd.in/ext4yS4A

In 2020, Chris Dillard, a call center employee for a decade, sought a major career change. Motivated by the need for a better income and his frustrations with fantasy football tools, he began learning coding independently. However, after hitting a wall, Dillard joined us at TripleTen in January 2023. He chose our QA engineering program, which features a flexible, self-paced structure. Within six months, Dillard completed the course and quickly landed a role as a QA automation engineer at Trustwell. At TripleTen, we offer a variety of programs ranging from software engineering to business intelligence analytics. Our curriculum is designed to be accessible to everyone and features a mix of text, videos, infographics, and instant feedback to ensure understanding. As our CPO Elise Deitrick explains, "Our curriculum is beginner-friendly and approachable... Tech doesn’t need to be intimidating!" Our students benefit from a range of resources, including one-on-one career coaching, externships, and projects that build a career-ready portfolio. We continue to offer support even after graduation, ensuring students can adapt to the rapidly changing tech world. Career coach Sharahn L. reinforces this, stating, "I firmly believe that each of us possess the seeds to our own success, but we can’t do it alone. We need the support of others... to manifest our futures." Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eUNVcXVq, thanks Technical.ly! #TripleTen #AnyoneCanCode #CareerTransition #Tech

Boon Thau Loo is an educator and scientist who has also added “entrepreneur" to his resume. While his primary passion is teaching, Loo has founded two tech startups in the last decade. A senior associate dean at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, Loo launched Gencore Systems in 2013, which later rebranded to Nestil AB after its acquisition by Nutamix in 2018. He then co-founded his second company, Termaxia (acquired by Frontiir), in 2016 which was later acquired by Frontiir in 2020. For Loo, the intersection of academia and entrepreneurship is a suitable place to extend his work at Penn Engineering, where his ultimate satisfaction is watching students grow into technology leaders. Community. At Technical.ly, it’s most of what we do, too, and that’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Alice as our new Pittsburgh lead reporter. https://lnkd.in/eJaCDBVp
