One of the great things about middle age is getting to celebrate the accomplishments of my peers—especially those decades in the making. I recently read my college roommate Mia Ong’s book "The Double Bind in Physics Education," published by Harvard Education Press, based on her work following women of color in physics for 25 years, and wow! What an accomplishment. Not only is her book a deeply necessary exploration of the many obstacles women of color in STEM face, along with the tactics they deploy to persevere—it’s also a great read, and I found it quite accessible, even as someone outside her field. Congratulations, Mia! Have any of you read it yet? If not, I highly recommend checking it out—available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and through the publisher (link in the comments.)
