Let this sink in. 50 years ago today, on October 28, 1974 women got the right to apply for credit cards in their own names, regardless of marital status. Just 50 years ago. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act, signed into law by President Gerald Ford, prohibits credit discrimination based on gender, race, marital status, age, or national origin. Credit discrimination was pervasive until the 1970s, with lenders often citing "stability" concerns for denying single women credit. The Act also helps protect small businesses owned by women and minorities, enabling access to the credit needed to start and grow their ventures. Since the Act's passage, the number of women-owned businesses in the U.S. has grown dramatically, with access to credit playing a crucial role. Since the 70s, the number of women-owned businesses has increased 30x. #ConferencesForWomen #Equality #Women

Education is a critical key to unlocking girls’ potential, yet too many girls are still denied this basic right. This impacts not only their lives but also the strength of their families, communities, and economies. At the Conferences for Women, we stand with advocates like Malala, who work passionately for equal access to education. With the right support and resources, the potential of the world’s 1.1 billion girls is truly limitless. When girls lead, everyone benefits, and our collective future is brighter. At today's #TXConfWomen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus spoke candidly about her time in Hollywood, and how as a woman in power, she's worked to create environments that are "efficient" for women trying to balance career and home. That of course, comes with the pressure. Julia's advice? Be kind to yourself. "It's not going to be perfect. You will screw up. There's this pressure to get it all done perfectly, because maybe we're built like that, but I think the more kindly we can sort of talk ourselves through that balancing act, we’ll be the better for it. You're doing your very best…be kind to yourself." Her words are a gentle but powerful reminder that balance doesn’t mean perfection – it’s about giving ourselves the grace to keep moving forward, one imperfect step at a time. Sara Blakely didn’t follow a traditional path. She missed the mark on her LSAT, failed to become Goofy at Disney, and worked door-to-door selling fax machines. But what did she do next? She created Spanx (and Sneex!)—and revolutionized an industry. "Failure is life's way of nudging you and letting you know you're off course. Because if I had not failed the LSAT, I would not have started Spanx." In her #TXConfWomen keynote, Blakely shared her journey of pushing through doubt and setbacks, explaining how trusting her inner voice and staying focused on her mission fueled her success. "A lot of time I doubted myself, and I still doubt myself, but I really am connected to my inner knowing. And I really pay attention to her and to that voice. And I feel like if you get quiet and you ask specifically for signs or for encouragement, you'll get it." Blakely reminded us that being different is an advantage and encouraged women to take action without fear of failure. "Whatever scares you, go, do it, and do it over and over again...There's no other formula than just whatever scares you. You only have one shot at life, right? This isn't a dress rehearsal. You're the writer, the director and the producer of your life. Make it a great movie."
