We are proud to announce that the Southwestern Medical District Urban Streetscape and Park Project received a 2024 Planning Achievement Gold Award for Public Outreach from the American Planning Association - Texas Chapter. MIG San Antonio partnered with Texas Trees Foundation to transform the Harry Hines corridor in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District into a vibrant, connected and safe multi-model linear parkway with an 8-acre park. MIG led the community engagement process, prioritizing outreach to communities most impacted by planning processes, especially those who have been historically left out of civic conversations. All the engagement activities were conducted in English and Spanish, and included stakeholder interviews, an interactive online survey, focus groups, pop-up outreach events, walking tours, door-to-door canvassing, and community open houses. In total, over 3,400 community participants were engaged throughout the engagement process. You can read more about the project at https://lnkd.in/gVUtPF3w

We are so excited to be partnering with Texas Trees Foundation this year! Through their Cool Schools program, the Texas Trees Foundation is providing vocational training to CCA students each week. Here, we’re talking about heat islands and the impact trees have on the temperature. Students made predictions of the temperature of sun exposed grass to tree covered grass and tested those predictions. They also taught us how the color of something can impact its temperature. For example, the temperature of the tennis court varies based on its colors. In addition to working directly with students, Texas Trees Foundation is working with our renovation team to design a historically accurate landscape design for the Phillis Wheatley School campus. They’re also partnering with The Giving Grove to plan and install an orchard on our campus! #BetterTogether #ForwardTogether #CommunityFirst #TexasTrees

Texas Trees is excited to partner with Texas A&M Forest Service and the Fort Worth ISD to provide residents with free tree seedlings. Although small now, with proper care these trees will provide much-needed shade, cleaner air, and lower energy costs for generations to come! While picking up your tree, take a few minutes to learn about the emerald ash borer, and how you can help to monitor and protect neighborhood ash trees from this devastating pest. 🌳 Fort Worth Parks Dept Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center #urbanforest #summer

As we wrap up our #embracetheshade summer social media campaign, we wanted to highlight the City of Dallas Urban Heat Island Mapping Study, a citizen science volunteer study that our team at Texas Trees Foundation was invited to collaborate on last month! 🌡️🌇🗺️ To complement the City of Dallas's data collection of air temperatures across the entire city, our team at Texas Trees Foundation collected surface temperature readings at four sites across the City — covering a variety of different environments; from developed, urban areas to protected greenspace; and corresponding to places of interest to our projects and programs, including the Southwestern Medical District and South Dallas. We wanted to share a special thank you to the @CityofDallas for inviting the Foundation to participate as collaborators in the study. Stay tuned for a public release of the results from the City of Dallas later this year. Use the following link https://ow.ly/t0EW50ToaW7 to read a blog post recapping our participation in the event!
