Ten students from ISU spent the morning visiting firms around downtown Des Moines, learning about each company's values and unique approaches to architecture. Thank you CMBA Architects, Hartman Spiller, and Substance Architecture for giving these students a taste of the professional world.

Tanner advises young professionals to explore different aspects of architecture, and not to fear exam failures as they serve as valuable practice. He stresses the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and ongoing learning. 👏

Two dozen Allied Members assembled in Cedar Rapids this past Thursday to visit Studio Combine, OPN Architects, and Emergent Architecture. It was a great day for networking that culminated into a social at the nostalgic Quarter Barrel Arcade & Brewery. Thank you to all the reps who attended and the architects who hosted our rowdy group!

We are incredibly proud of the volunteer members who participated in our Search for Shelter Design Charrette last Friday. These architects worked all day to provide our partner organization, Humility Homes & Services, Inc in the Quad Cities, with plans on how to reimagine their emergency shelter and ideas on how to grow in the future. Here's hoping the groundwork laid here will allow us to serve more nonprofits in future years. Thank you to our event sponsors MPC Enterprises, Inc., MidAmerican Energy Company, Pigott, and Willdan for making the day possible!

Expanding a story begun in our Fall 2024 Room for Improvement edition, this issue looks at “high performance” spaces: facilities dedicated to increasing human performance in a specific area of endeavor - whether in sports, instruction, the arts, science, or something else entirely. In what ways does giving time and space for focused performance unleash it? What new kinds of bespoke facilities are developing, and what does that teach us about our own priorities and potential?
