About us

For over 100 years Bradley has been providing hope to children and families in need of comprehensive and caring services. Bradley was founded by The United Methodist Women in 1905 as The Elizabeth A. Bradley Home for Children and operated for many years as an orphanage and as interim housing for children whose parents were separated or divorced. In 1972, it was incorporated as The Bradley Center to serve abused, neglected and dependent children. In 1991, Bradley was reorganized by a new non-denominational, community-based Board of Trustees and executive management. The Bradley Center has since evolved into an accredited, regional behavioral healthcare and child welfare system that provides hope to young girls and boys. Bradley is committed to advocacy for children and dedicated to the restoration of productive relationships among children, their families and the community whenever possible. The Bradley Center implements the Sanctuary Model of Trauma Informed Care developed by Dr. Sandra Bloom. Sanctuary is a treatment and organizational model that is based on understanding trauma. Every staff and resident in care focus on "SELF" - Safety (physical, psychological, social and moral), Emotion management, Loss (traumatic experiences and separation), and the Future (how can things get better?). Bradley has earned the quality distinction of accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. It is also licensed by the Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Welfare. Bradley's Vision is to be recognized nationally by families, communities and professionals as a premier behavioral healthcare, education and child welfare organization that promotes the physical, social, emotional, educational and spiritual growth of the children, youth and families that it serves.

Mikala’s Story Mikala came to The Bradley Center with a long history of challenging behavior: skipping school, running away from home, experimenting with drugs and alcohol, and getting into minor trouble with the law. These behaviors began at the age of 11 and continued throughout high school.   Our staff approached her treatment from a trauma-informed perspective. We were able to help Mikala verbalize her past trauma in a safe environment and start the path to healing. By working together in treatment, Mikala and her team were able to successfully determine the best course of interventions for her. She was soon able to effectively manage her symptoms and eliminate problematic behavior.   Mikala was successfully discharged from The Bradley Center, and she became a peer advocate in her home county for several years. In the years following her discharge, Mikala moved out of state and enrolled in college. She recently reported that she has married and is now the proud mother of a healthy young son.

3 Effortless Ways to Add a Dose of Self-Care to Your Day September is Self-Care Awareness Month. We know that practicing self-care is essential for our staff. It is only when we are nourished ourselves that we can effectively give to others. Yet, the demands of our busy lives often crowd the vital practice of self care. Here are three simple ways to bring some mindful joy to your routine: 1. Commute dance party. Infuse your regular commute with some playfulness by cranking up your favorite songs and singing along. Turn off the talk radio and the stress it brings and enjoy an oasis of melody with a dedicated playlist full of toe-tapping tunes.  2. Serenity stroll. Just a 10 minute walk is enough to clear your head and refocus your priorities. Notice the nature around you and be renewed by the beauty we take for granted. 3. Affirmation message. Send a text to someone in your life expressing your love and appreciation. Just one sentence, such as, “in case I haven’t mentioned it lately, you mean a lot to me,” can make someone’s day—and remind you of how supported you are.

Blame is part of an unproductive relational pattern that traps us in negative patterns. In this clip, Brené Brown short circuits blame, by showing that it’s just anger trying to find expression. At The Bradley Center, we empower children and families to forge positive patterns that unlock connection and growth.   https://lnkd.in/eywrN79
